Don't Be Afraid of the Dark [H.S]

Chapter 4.

WARNING: GORE.

I stared at the targets in front of me, ten targets up. I tightened my pistol with my clammy hand, feeling anxiety weighing on my chest. I breathed in slowly, taking in the cool air, and I exhaled out all my worries. Adrenaline fulfilled me, as I brought up my pistol slowly, aiming at the first target to my left. I squinted looking at the first target, smirking to myself.

I pulled back the trigger, and heard the loud gunshot booming through my ears, I then go to the second target quickly, pulled back my trigger again. Excitement rushed through me, I felt so empowering, it's like every shot, is a shot of energy filling me up. I smiled when I shot the last target, wow, I shot all the targets in the center.

The sound of clapping behind me startled me, I looked behind me and I saw my dad smiling, showing his naturally straight teeth. "That was great!" he chuckled.

"Ha, thanks," I said, scratching my neck. The sky began to become a creamy crimson color, it's so beautiful. "Wow," I commented.

"Right, it's been a long time to finally get a day like this, hey have you taken your pills?" my dad asked. He inhales the crisp air, taking in this moment. "Yeah, don't worry about it. I always take them." I smiled. Ever since I was little, I'd have terrible stomach aches with insane hunger, not even regular food helps. But, thankfully the pills fixes that problem.

"Oh, good," he laughed with no humor. "You know, I have to tell you some-" the sound of a helicopter above us interrupted him, no helicopters ever go by us before.

My dad immediately grabbed my shoulder sprinting towards our home.

He fondled through our closet and took out our weapons and such. "Dad, what's going on?!" I yelled hysterically.

He tossed me a gun which I caught, almost slipping off my hands. He gave me my belt with my utilities for to survive, or to hunt to me, I wrapped it around my waist, as I breathed heavily. He grabbed his own weapons and got his dark mask that covers half of his face, I grabbed mine too and I looked for my coat, as I achieved to find it, I quickly put it on.

"They're here," he claimed, monotonously. He kissed my forehead harshly, hugging me with force. "Don't hesitate to kill darlin', look for Laura Bourgoyne, and kill her immediately," he added. "Wait, who is she?!" I scrambled, he never bothered to tell me who 'Laura Bourgoyne' is.

"She killed your mother," he uttered.

I felt a pit in my stomach, the image of her twisted smile appeared in my mind made me get goosebumps.

I nodded quickly, giving him one last hug, "Go up to your room Vi," he demanded, "Love you, oh and here are your pills! Do not lose these!" he scurried.

"I love you too dad, and thank you." I sneaked the bottle in my coat.

I climbed up the ladder quickly, as I hid behind my drawer, waiting for the presence of whoever is here.

Silence.

I grabbed my gun, and loaded it, and I pulled up my mask. It's now very dark, I could hardly even see my own hands. Instantly, red lasers appeared across my room, I saw a dark figure from out of my window, holding a gun in his hands. Adrenaline pumped into me, I feel terrified, but this is for real, today is the day that I've been training for all these years, this is it, it all happened so fast.

An unknown bursts into my room, with a gun aimed around my room, the lasers blazed through the darkness. I smirked to myself as he began to move over to my bed, I slowly crawled out from behind the drawer, but an idea popped up to my head, it's perfect.

This old candle with no wax next to me is hanged above me, I slowly tipped it, and I partly saw the candle smashing down to the floor,  and startled the unknown person. He rapidly moved it's gun towards the sound, that's when I took the chance to crawl right behind him. "C'mon little girl, I won't hurt you," he sarcastically chuckled. I tipped this other object, it shattered into million of pieces to the floor.  He shot towards the sound now, that's when I reacted.
