Chapter 4

As I reached home, I immediately stormed into my room and threw my bag to the floor. I paced back and forth and ended up sitting on the cold floor with my back against the wall, tearing the sorrow away.

" Why is my life so pathetic?!"

" My parents turned their back on me, and now the only person that I love and rely on betrays me?!!"

I couldn't think straight, where my mind started to drive me to do all the bad destructive things that I could ever think of to myself.

Am I better off dead?

Where's the scissors? Where's a rope?
Where's the freaking knife?!

No. You're better than this, Maya.

Suddenly, deep within my soul resides a burning desire to run away. To escape. I wanted to run break free and flee as far away as possible. To be somewhere serene and secluded . Somewhere no one can ever find me.

To never look back. To never get back.

Without having any second thoughts, I opened up my laptop and booked the nearest flight ticket to where one of my aunt lives which leaves at 3 o'clock in the morning.

" There's no going back now. "
I wiped off the tears and got up to start packing.

" Dear Aunt Wiwik, if you're reading this, I'm already long gone from home. Please don't be mad at me and don't be worried about me, I'm a grown woman now. I'm able to take good care of myself. I just can't take it anymore, my world is crumbling and everything is falling apart one by one. I needed to do this. I need to find myself again. I hope you'd understand. I promise, I'll come back home again. One day. Till then, take care and goodbye Aunt Wiwik. "

I folded the letter carefully and stepped out to Aunt Wiwik's doorstep. It was already late in the midnight hour so everyone must have been fast asleep. I carefully twisted the door knob revealing her in deep slumber. I silently walked towards the side of the bed and placed the letter on the side table. I watched her sleep with the calm contentment of a girl who has no idea of how rash of a decision she made, or what unexpected tragedies the following the day will bring.

" I'm sorry. "
I whispered inaudibly as I took my final steps, leaving everything behind.
