Mate?

Chapter 22: If Only

Alexander's POV

I watched from my window as I saw Mason and Rachel playing in their wolf forms. I probably shouldn't be watching them because that's kinda...creepy.

But I couldn't help but wonder if Mason had never came, would that be me with her instead if him? Why did my mate have to leave me so soon? How come everyone else gets to be happy with their mate, while I'm here with no one.

Rafael came over earlier to tell me about his situation with Adam. I was shocked at first but, all love is equal. Right? I'm just glad that he found his mate. But why did Mason have to come and ruin my perfect chance to be with Rachel.

I sighed deeply, and ran my hands over my face. You know I just wish I could have a second chance mate. Hell I wouldn't even care if it was a guy! I just want to be happy. I want someone to hold and to cherish.

Yeah I know its cheesy, but I see everyone else and it hurts. They look so perfect together. Even Adam and Rafael. Now that I think about I have seen them before together and they did, in fact, look good together.

I looked back out the window and realized that Mason and Rachel had already left. Maybe I can go for a run now and check the borders. I might even take a patrol with me. I just have to go ask my dad to confirm my border patrol.

I was walking down the hall to my dad's office (which will be mine, soon) when I heard whispering. I know I shouldn't be eavesdropping, but it didn't sound like the normal everyday chit-chat. It sounded like someone was on the phone, but was trying to be as quiet as possible.

"Yeah she looked pretty convinced." The person said into the phone.

"..... Yeah I won't let her find out..... Of course I don't care about her!.... Look I'm only doing this because your my friend, and.... Yeah yeah look you know what I don't have to do this.... nooo please don't. Okay fine I'll finish the job, but just don't hurt her...

"No I don't care about her but you know my wolf does..... Yeah..Fine. Got...It. Kay bye."

When I was sure the conversation was over I turned the corner and acted as if I hadn't heard a thing. I looked to see... Mason? On his phone with a frown on his face. What is this man up to?

"Hey Mason you wanna go on patrol with me?"

He jumped at my words but quickly calmed down. "Uh yeah I would love to but... I have to do something... Yeah I have to go see Rachel and Rafael. Don't want to keep them waiting." he said and looked back down at his phone.

"Oh yeah I should probably come too. I mean poor Rafael he must really be missing his mat-" I didn't finish the sentence because Adam came in through the front door looking calm. And not at all in a hurry to see Rafael.

"Well I guess we won't have to deal with that. So what do you say? Wanna go patrol?"

"Sure..." he mumbled as he followed me to my dad's office.

Rafael's POV

I was pacing back and forth in my room. Thinking about Adam. I know they agreed to help me and all. But that still doesn't mean that I'm going to calm down.

My mates out there somewhere, what if he's hurt? No he can't be because I would've felt something right? Ugh I don't even know.

Random possibilities of how Adam is, were going through my head. But I stopped my pacing when I smelled that beautiful smell that I have been dying to smell again.

I ran out of my room and I saw Adam heading towards Rachel's room. Why isn't he going to me first? It kinda hurt, but I didn't care because he's finally here. And most importantly, he's safe.

I ran down the stairs and engulfed him with a hug. At first he relaxed into it, but then he stiffened.

"Get. The. Fuck. Off. Of. Me." he said through clenched teeth.

I frowned but let him go. "What's wrong babe?" He looked at me with a are-you-fucking-kidding me face.

"What's wrong babe? WHATS WRONG? YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHATS WRONG!!!

"I let you into my heart, only to find out that its just all a game. I told you how much I cared about you but no its just a joke." What is he talking about?

"Adam, baby, I don't understand? What happened?"

Oh no he looked pissed.

"Don't you 'baby' me. I know about your little plan. I know that your just playing with my feelings. I know that you never cared about me..."

"Adam-"

"No Rafael. Just don't. I don't care what you have to say. I don't want you to lie to me anymore!!!! AND TO THINK THAT I WAS ACTUALLY FALLING FOR IT!!! And you wanna the best part? I was starting to fall for you."

"Please I don't know-"

"No Rafael, just don't. So to save your time I'll just do it myself. I, Adam Shane, reject you, Rafael Steele."

What no, no, no, no, this can't be happening. No he can't. Why? I dropped to my knees and looked up at Adam.

"Adam what are you talking about? Please let me, let me tell you the truth." At this point I had tears in my eyes, "Adam I-I-I..."

"Please don't Rafael. I'm done."

And he walked out the house just as I had finally managed to say. "Adam, but... I Love You.."

But he was already gone. What just happened? This can't be real. The love of my life just, just left me. And he took my heart with him.

I grabbed my hair just sat there on my knees. Sobbing and crying out for him to come back. To let me fix things. Why? Why did he leave me?

I can't explain the pain in my chest. I can't explain how I feel. He just left me. He didn't even give me a second look. I yelled out and pain and ran outside.

I let my wolf out. While I just locked myself up. I don't want to remember this. I wish it were a dream. But I know its not. Adam just rejected me. And he didn't even care.

Okay so please don't hate me for this I swear I cried while writing it. And there will be no short story cause its late and I'm tired and I did this chapter because the idea just popped into my head so night lovelies.
