The smell of warm sugar still wafted throughout the air when he slowly opened the door to Ryder's room. It was completely dark outside; it had been for hours now. But he couldn't sleep. It wasn't a terror, or a nightmare, but the longing for a body to be next to his. Specifically Ryder, as he had slept so soundly the night before.

Her room differed from his own, as it was completely dark. So dark he could not see his hands blindly groping the furniture to make his way to the bed.

It was one of the rooms in the house he was least familiar with, it being his parents' room.

His hands stumbled upon soft satin that he recognized as the sheets used to dress the beds in their house. He moved his hands in a big oval to check if there was space before he climbed in, and sure enough there was, as Ryder always slept on the far side of the bed.

He pulled up the edge of the sheet before sliding in, his arms carefully wrapping around the girl's waist.

"Gray?" She mumbled as she shuffled back into his chest. "Everything okay?"

He nodded and buried his face into her hair which faintly smelled of the bubble bath. "I'm okay, just wanted to be next to you tonight."

She intertwined their fingers in her sleepy haze, "okay, goodnight."

"Goodnight," he answered and kissed the top of her head.

In the distance, frogs croaked loudly in the creeks that were hidden in the woods. The moonlight casted a small amount of light into the streets damp with rain. The pair of teenagers quietly slept intertwined with each other, neither of the two stirring uncomfortably in their arms. They were peaceful. And on that sixth night, there were no terrors.
