"You know where to find me."
The sentence that Ryder had left him on had begun to become a part of the jumble of mess he called his mind. It was a question that had one answer, and one answer only. Any other options except the correct option were wrong by a long shot, and that was what made it so tricky.
Somewhere, probably not very far, she had escaped to. It was a place that they both knew of, and it probably had great significance if she expected him to figure it out.
Was it obvious and he was thinking too hard? Maybe.
If someone were to enter the master bedroom, they wouldn't believe it was a living space for a human being. Maybe in a post apocalyptic world, but certainly not in standards for their own time. The closet and dressers were turned inside out. Clothing scattered the floor and left shelves bare. The bathroom was covered in bottles and various toiletries, and some had even come upon to leave a sticky residue of whatever was inside.
A small perfume bottle, that had belonged to his mother, had fallen and broken into pieces. The smell of a familiar floral fragrance filled both rooms and covered the filth and untidiness in a mask. The perfume was his mother's favorite and immediately took him to better times when he was a child. The smell was one that reminded him of a loving family and home, but as it descended into every fiber of every article of clothing, it took on a fake sense of peace and calming.
He wondered how something so simple could remind him of his childhood and slow down his heart rate until he felt safe again; nevertheless a person. It was crazy how humans depended on outside forces to return them to better times.
As he reminisced in the scent, he began to think of Ryder again, and how much of a peaceful and calm force she had been. Even from the beginning, the years spent in the mental hospital were changed completely by her presence. Without her, he might even be dead with his own decisions and lack of rightful decisions.
The mental hospital; the asylum.
He dropped what he was doing immediately and made way towards the door. His strides were long and he only had one destination on his mind.
He had to go.
