Author's POV:
The four sat in the car listening to Dean's playlist as Sam did research. The girls in the back and boys in front, the usual. They're about 30 minutes from Blackwater Ridge.
Alex leaned back against Nicole as she played with her hair, both humming along to Guns 'n' Roses.
"So what do you think it is?" Nicole asks curiously. Sam sighs.
"Well-" Sam looks at the coordinates in his dad's journal and back to his laptop. "Blackwater Ridge is just woods." Dean turns to Sam.
"Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?" Nicole asks and Sam shrugs.
"Why does he do anything?" Sam looks out the window annoyed while Dean growls.
"Well, I could give you three good reasons." Dean states, ready to argue.
"Don't." Alex warns Dean looks at her through the rearview mirror.
"Fine, whatever. Forget I said anything." Sam ignores Dean as they go quiet again. Dean parks next to a sign that reads: RANGER STATION Lost Creek Trail, Lost Creek National Forest. Getting out of the car they walk into the building to see bears and deer hanging on the wall as a sick form of trophys.
"Dude check out the size of this freaking bear." They all look, Nicole feeling a little scared for her first hunt.
"Damn.." Alex whispers in surprise. "I'd cry if I saw that, no joke." Sam looks down at a picture only to be startled by a Forest Ranger by the name of Wilkinson.
"You guys aren't planning on going to Blackwater Ridge by any chance?" The ranger causes them to turn around abruptly, Nicole tripping over her feet and stumbling back into Sam who helps her stand up right.
"Oh, no sir we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder." Sam makes up a lie off the top of his head.
Alex steps forward and smiles at the Ranger. "We're just working on a paper." Sam and Alex chuckle a little
Dean raises an awkward fist."Recycle, man."
The ranger shakes his head and crosses his arms. "Bull." They all freeze. Nicole thinking up a lie. "Your friends with that Haley girl, right?" Dean considers for a moment and Nicole speaks up.
"Yeah.. sorry we lied. She's just a little concerned about these woods." She musters up enough courage to make it sound believable. Dean nods along and Alex looks away ashamed to make the situation seem real.
"Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?" Sam shakes his head no. "Tell that girl to quit worrying."
"Will do, Ranger." Alex answers but as they go to leave Nicole turns back to the ranger.
"Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date." Sam looks at Nicole a little shocked but quickly covers it. The ranger hands her the paper and they walk out.
"What was that for?" Dean asks.
"So we can go talk to her and hear her side of the story." Dean looks to Sam and points to him smiling.
"She's as smart as you. She's a keeper." Dean chuckles and they get in the car.
--Time skip--
Alex walks up to the door with the three behind her. Knocking, a brunette girl around the age of 24 answers.
"Yeah?"
" You must be Haley Collins. I'm Alex, this is Sam, Dean, and Nicole we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy." She looks at Alex and the others questioningly.
"Can I see some ID?" Nicole panics and Alex and Dean put out their IDs praying she won't ask for the other two.
"Come on in." Dean says a quick thanks and they walk into the small country style home. "My brother usually checks in everyday with video messages, texts, phone calls, pictures, but he hasn't in a while and that's not like him." Sam steps forward.
"Can I see the pictures he sent you?" The girl opens her laptop and shows Sam who notices very quick movement, quicker than any human, in the shadow of the tent.
"Thanks." Sam says and copies the video onto his laptop.
"We'll be keeping an eye out for him, if we find anything out you'll be the first to know." Alex smiles and the girl nods weakly as they walk out.
Alex's POV:
We made it to the forest only to run into Haley, her brother Ben, and some guy who is supposedly the best bear hunter named Roy.
We traveled by their side and made it to the campsite, blood stains covering the tent. The creature, which we deemed to be a Wendigo, was trying mimick human cries and screams to lure us out and Roy being the narcissistic asshole that he is, he didn't listen to our protests and wound up as a happy meal.
Nicole ran after him to see if he was alright, along with Dean to try to protect Nicole, but they were taken by the wendigo. Now Sam and I are left to protect Haley and Ben while searching for her brother, my boyfriend, and roommate.
"Where the hell are they?" Sam whispers to me as I walk back empty handed. I had gone after them because they've been gone a while and Sam had to watch the girl and her brother.
"They're not there. They're missing." I whisper even lower. "Great." I sigh  "You watch them, I'm going to go kick ass. Torch the son of a bitch and he'll die. Dad and I hunted one awhile back. I'll be fine." He shakes his head.
"No, you're not going by yourself." He states stubbornly.
"Dammit, Sam! We have to be quick about this and they're going to slow us down. If I go then we have a chance of actually getting there in time before one of them, or even both, get hurt. Okay?" I have no time for arguments. I push passed him and reach into Dean's duffel bag grabbing his zippo and shove it into my purse. Taking off running in the direction of where they once were I hear Sam scream out.
"Dean's going to kick my ass, Alex!" Looking down at the tree I see m&m's. Dean. I follow the trail, shotgun in hand. It may not do anything but it sure as hell will piss him off enough to keep him back.
Nicole's POV:
Feeling my ribs burn and head throbbing I force my eyes open, squinting slightly. Adjusting in the dark I make out three other bodies hanging off chains. It was then when I realize metal clasps are digging into my hands, holding me off of the ground.
"Dean?" My voice is hoarse and dry, slightly sore. No answer, I could see him hanging. Head hanging down while blood dripped from his hands and face.
"Thomas?" I ask and gain a quiet response.
"I'm here." His voice is scratchy and dull. I nod trying hard to stay conscious. Blood dripping from my lip and eyebrow onto the dirty cold ground. Are we in an old mine? I keep quiet as footsteps approach.
Alex's POV:
I see an old mine and realize Wendigos like to take their victims into a secluded, dark place. Usually damp and underground.
I reach into my purse for a flashlight and click it on, quickly but cautiously proceeding ahead. My footsteps echoing through the tunnels.
Turning a sharp right I see four people hanging from chains. Immediately I notice Nicole and then Dean. I grab my knife and pick the lock to Nicole's causing her to land on the ground. I walk over to Dean and put his stomach on my shoulder and wrap one arm around him while I cut the rope. He falls and I gently lie his head down onto my lap. I run fingers through his hair, facial expression pained.
"Come on Dean, you have to wake up. Come on.." I whisper the words over and over as Sam turns into the room, Haley and Ben trailing behind.
"Sam stick with Dean." I take my jacket off and ball it up placing it under Dean's head. I run back through the tunnels passed Sam.
"Come get me you son of a bitch!" I hear an ear piercing screech come from behind me and see a disformed being running after me. I smirk to myself and run faster, praying to find a dead end. Eventually I do and I attach the zippo to a mini-can of hairspray I keep in my purse. Lighting it up I push down on the button making a homemade flamethrower causing the being to burst into flames. I shut the zippo and throw the contraption in my purse, running passed the burning corpse out of the mines.
Sam holds Dean in his arms preventing him from running back into the mines. I see Nicole help patch up wounds from some of the others.
Dean stops fighting once he sees me and Sam let's him go. He runs towards me and wraps his arms around my waist pulling me into the air while he buries his face into my neck squeezing his eyes shut. I pretend not to enjoy the affection and hug him gently. He sets me down and places both hands on my face.
"You're a fucking idiot. You could've gotten yourself killed in there!" He shouts and I push him away walking over to Nicole.
"Are you okay?" She turns to me and looks over at Sam who is helping Haley understand what happened.
"I am now." She says smiling in his direction. Dean walks over and I grab his arm sitting him on the ground, grabbing the first aid kit I tend to his wounds.
"I was worried." He watches me open the butterfly to place onto his forehead.
"That makes two of us." I sigh noticing the sadness. "Dean, this job is dangerous. We're always going to worry." He shakes his head.
   "I know.."
Nicole's POV:
Sam decides to sit in the backseat considering it was getting late and we're both tired. He wraps his arm around my shoulder and I lay my head on his chest.
"I'm proud of you." He says kissing the top of my head. "You thought like a hunter and performed like one." I smile softly and grab his shirt as I drifted to sleep hearing the engine rumble through the night.
