Emily Smith was an ordinary 17 year old girl. She had dreams and aspirations just like all the others, and she had a crush on the most popular boy in school, she would day dream about him for hours. His name was Kriston White; he was tall, athletic, handsome and rich. He had golden blond hair that curled just the right amount on the sides and the back, sky blue eyes that always seemed to twinkle and his body was lean and muscular from all the sports he played. His fashion was only the latest and trendiest of clothing, and his car was a black Maserati that his dad had given him on his 17th birthday. Every girl in school was in-love with him.

Unfortunately for Emily she was a quiet nerdy girl. Her teachers all adored her, and with a 4.5 GPA she was set to go to almost any collage of her choice. Her mouse brown hair and hazel eyes left her feeling plain; she still had a little puppy fat around the waist leaving her insecure when she thought about all the prettier skinnier girls at school. She never could see herself as anything special.

All she wanted was to be seen as something desirable. She wanted what the other girls had. A cute boy who loved her and saw past her nerdy flaws. Luckily she had a best friend who was always so supportive and was always there for her. Joseph Webb was a 6ft lean soccer playing machine. He had longish brown hair and golden eyes. They had been friends since they were 12 years old. His mother was hosting a party for saving animals and her mum had been the photographer. It was summer break and her sitter has called in last minute to say she wasn't going to be able to make it. Emily and her mum had a massive screaming match because Emily had wanted to stay home by herself and her mother refused. Fast forward to Emily's 17 year old self and she was so grateful to her mum. She and Joseph had hit it off immediately and been best friends from that day to this. They never fought, they loved the same music, food, TV shows. Pretty much everything. The only thing they disagreed on was Kriston. Joseph hated him, he thought that Kriston was rude selfish and entitled. But no matter his thoughts on the subject he always supported Emily.

That was until May 21st, it was a rainy miserable day and Emily had not wanted to go to school. Nothing seemed to fit right, her hair was a mess and her nails that she had so painstakingly painted the night before had somehow smudged. She had another fight with her mum about collages and where she should go. All she wanted to do was curl up and hide from the world. Her mother of course refused to let her stay home.

"You can't stay home, if you stay home your grades will suffer and I do not have the money to send you to collage. You know that! The only chance you have is to get a good scholarship and you will not get that by going back to bed. Now off to school you go." Her mother growled.

With tears streaming down her face Emily ran out to Josephs car and hoped in.

"Great now I am tear stained as well as a mess." Emily complained to Joseph.

"What happened this time?" Joseph responded.

"Just the usual, mum doesn't understand me at all. I can't face school today, I just can't! I'm a mess! Why cant she just understand for once."

"Your not a mess. You look beautiful to me..." Joseph stated.

"Oh Jo, stop being silly. You say the dumbest things. But thank you, you always know how to make me feel better." Emily replied smiling.

Joseph blushed then looked away. He didn't want Emily to see the hurt on his face. Every time he tried to tell her how he felt she knocked him back and thought he was teasing her. Why couldn't she see what he was really trying to tell him? With a shake of his head he put on a fake smile.

"Right you are my lady, off to school we go then." He teased.
