By second period everyone knew how Emily had behaved and how she thought maths tuition equalled dating. She couldn't look at anyone in the face because they were all laughing at her. She suddenly realised what Joseph had been trying to warn her about, but she knew she had blown it with him. She tried texting him but got no reply.

"I'm an idiot!" she whispered to herself as she snuck out of school.

Emily walked and walked that afternoon. She didn't know where she was going or what she was doing. She was alone and miserable. She had pushed her best friend in the whole world away. He hated her now. Everyone thought she was a looser. She had nothing. Depression set in and she started thinking that maybe the world would be better off if she didn't exist. Maybe she should end it all. No one would miss her after all. Yes that's what she would do. When she got home she would end it. No one cared. With tears in her eyes she headed home, as she crossed the road the tears blurred her vison and she didn't see the SUV fly around the corner until it was too late. Pain seared through her brain and then there was nothing. Just darkness.
