The black SUV silently cut through the moonless night was as inconspicuous as it could be. No headlights, no turn signals, no stopping nor starting, the car simply moved through the gloom at the same slow, silent, speed. It's driver was headed to the old industrial area of the city, a place where he could find a wide open space to be alone for a little while and blow off some steam. Squinting through the darkness at some possible locations, the man leaned forward a little so that his chin was almost level with the top of the steering wheel. Through the dim night air, a large brick building slowly became visible. Decelerating a little so that he could better scope the place out, he noted the hallmarks of a recent fire. Black lines stained the brick facade and it looked like part of the roof had collapsed in. The base had also been heavily tagged by the squiggly lines indicating juvenile delinquency and gang activity. All in all the building looked damaged and abandoned. That was exactly what he was looking for.
With a sharp tug on the wheel the car quietly screeched as it turned and headed down the old road leading to the chosen building. It's driver continued the same steady speed down the road until he reached an overgrown parking lot. He stopped the car, pulling his black hood over his head, as to blend into the darkness. The hoodie matched the rest of his outfit, which consisted of black jeans, converse, and his hair, which he had recently dyed jet-black. He opened his car door, grabbed his black duffel bag off of the passenger seat and stepped out onto the gravel, the only noise being the quiet crunching of his feet against the ground. He closed the door of his car before shuffling along toward the entrance to the warehouse, keeping his head down on the off chance that the area still had security cameras. He really didn't want to be seen, especially because of what he was about to do.
As he got closer to the doors, he saw that they were wide open, and inside the warehouse was pitch black, somehow darker than the area outside. He opened his bag and pulled out a flashlight, not turning it on as he crept into the building.
Once inside he quickly turned and pushed the doors shut to ensure complete privacy. As soon as he was standing the in the dark unknown he fumbled along the side of the flashlight until he found the on switch. With the thin beam of white light, the man could see that the warehouse was deserted except for a few burnt crates in the far right corner. Perfect.
He chucked his bag to the side, and strode to the center of the large room. Sitting down, the flashlight was turned off and he crossed his legs, unconcerned about the dirt doubtlessly covering his clothes. He held his hands out in front of his body, palms facing up as he began to relax and focus in on himself. A deep breath in, and the release of his consciousness into the air. The man could suddenly see all in perfect clarity. The dirty, burned warehouse ready to collapse in, himself sitting on the floor, his car parked in the back. The air began to hum with electricity. He could see all, and was all, inseparable from the very fabric of the universe he occupied. Slowly, the veins in his body lit up from beneath his skin, creating deep yellow lines that made the rest of his pale skin seem to be glowing a dull orange. He focused harder, all of his muscles tensed and trembled as he visualised what was going to happen. His eyes snapped open to reveal that the milky whites had clouded over the green irises and heavily dilated pupils, burning a hot white that cast harsh shadows across his cheeks. His soft black hair slowly began to lift as static electricity crackled in the air, little arcs of pure electricity jumped between his spread fingers.
A low grumble erupted in the back of his throat as he felt a sharp burn erupt at his spine, the loud cracks of jumping electricity grew louder and more frantic as the man's body was lifted from the ground, his legs unfurled and his back arched as he felt the power at his fingertips. Hovering just above the ground, he lifted his right hand high over his head, allowing a huge amount of power to travel up his body until it focused itself in his fingertips. Then with a deep breath, he lowered it so that his palm was facing the old pile of burned crates.
He inhaled, and then let out his breath which turned into a loud scream. From the center of his palm, a huge purple lightning bolt erupted out, arcing up and then straight back to the old crates. Where the millions of volts hit the wood, a blinding flash of light, wave of heat, and flurry of sparks flew back at him. He took it all and slowly lowered himself back to the ground with an immense satisfaction. That had been his biggest one yet.
He smoothed his hair back and turned to collect his bag. He couldn't help but look back one more time at the smouldering pile of ashes, all that was left of the now obliterated boxes.
He was growing more powerful.
