"Where's your Oracle? You do know that greeting guest without the Oracle present is an insult, don't you?" Reyna said teasingly.
"Rachel, unfortunately, was held up by some family matters but she will be here tomorrow," Percy chuckled.
"There are roughly fifty campers that came along," Reyna told Percy in a matter-of-fact tone. "Thirteen wish to stay."
"We welcome them with open arms," Jason said.
"Hannibal is with us," she stated. "He will need accommodations."
Annabeth nodded and smiled.
"I can call Mrs. O' Leary to play with him," Percy suggested.
"I think they both would like that," Reyna said, grinning. "The Cohort leaders and I would like to speak with you about some more private matters." She finished, glancing at me.
It seemed that this was a discussion for the camp leader's ears only.
"Come on," I whispered to her, slightly pulling on her hand.
Gabby was oblivious of the stares that we were receiving, along with whispers floating around us.
I let go of her hand and tried to ignore the stares and judgment being thrown my way.
"Let's find your cabin, Gabby." I mumbled.
The rest of the day was spent with the Hermes cabin, which I later found out was not Gabby's parental cabin as her parent hasn't claimed her yet.
I watched from the side as Gabby was taught techniques for fighting monsters. The set look of determination on her innocent face was endearing.
No matter how many times the Stroll brothers showed the technique, Gabby was unsuccessful in every attempt to recreate the maneuver.
She was beginning to become frustrated as she became more and more careless with her actions just as Travis was becoming more and more tired both physically and mentally.
I would have stepped in when I saw a stray tear come from Gabby's eye but another beat me to it.
"Travis, why don't you take a break and I'll try my luck with Gabby."
The Roman Praetor, Reyna, stepped in, giving Travis a stern look. He mumbled something along the lines of an agreement as he left.
My eyes narrowed as I watched the girl approach Gabby.
"Don't cry, doll," she whispered. "It's your first day of training."
"He showed me over and over." Gabby sniffled. "Everyone else got it."
"But you aren't everyone else, are you?" Reyna asked while crouching to be at eye level with Gabby. "Why don't we try this a little differently?"
I watched in awe as Reyna patiently taught the defenses to Gabby showing her what to do rather than telling her.
By the end of their lesson, Gabby was getting the hang of using a sword and my respect for Reyna grew.
"Gabby, Reyna," Travis called from across the arena. "It's almost time for dinner at the Great Hall."
"We'll be over in a minute, Travis," Reyna said dismissively.
