The winds were howling as Percy's world started crashing down around him.
The sky above us began swirling with dark clouds. The winds became strong enough to push the others who were standing alongside me until they could barely stand.
"Percy!" I yelled over the commotion. "Listen to me! We will find Annabeth, I promise."
His eyes became dark, his fury imminent. "She's in danger." He growled.
"Yes, she is," I agreed, ignoring the look of panic the others gave. "And every second we spend being angry and doing nothing is another second that she is still in danger."
He looked at me, his face bearing no resemblance to the easy going kid I had known him as. The camp watched in muted horror as Percy's emotions remained unstable. The rain began to slowly stop as he stood.
The clouds remained looming over us. Percy cut through the crowd and headed for his cabin.
I let out a sigh of relief before following him.
---"Hera had to have done it," Percy said, his voice cracking from emotions.
He looked disheveled, his hair was all over the place being pulled every which way as he tugged his fingers through it.
For two days we have been looking for Annabeth. No one heard or saw anything. There were no prophecies. She just disappeared.
Percy was on a rampage, determined to walk the entire way to Olympus.
"Percy, why don't we take the car?" Nico tried to reason with him.
"No," he said stubbornly. "I can't go in my car. There are too many memories of us there."
"Well, maybe we can shadow travel," Nico suggested.
"You're much too weak to travel alone. Adding another person to the mix would definitely kill you." Will dismissed the notion.
"I'm not the only one who can shadow travel anymore," Nico said looking at me. My stomach dropped at the thought of taking Percy down there, even if it was only for a second.
Percy's eyes lit up as he looked at me.
"I don't know Percy," I said. "I can try but it's super risky."
"I'm fine with that." He said although I was still hesitant. "Please, Cleo. I can't lose her. It will kill me if I do."
I weighed my options. If I refuse to take him, he will want to know why and I will have to lie to him, or I take him and bring him down there before bringing him to Olympus. If I take him to the pit, he might sense the energy and panic, separate from me, and be stuck there until I find him. I looked back at him, his eyes begging me to do something, anything.
I sighed in defeat.
"Ok," I whispered. His face brightened.
"Ok?" He breathed.
"Ok, I'll do it." I relented.
"Thank you, Cleo."
"You will do everything I tell you, understand?" I said in all seriousness.
"Yes, anything." He nodded.
"Close your eyes, and no matter what you sense, don't open them," I said. "You'll be safe with me."
He closed his eyes and I took a deep breath as I placed my hand on his shoulder. I closed my eyes and thought of my favorite place in the pit, where no one would see us. I could feel the ground beneath my feet welcome me, but I couldn't stay long.
The instant I could, I traveled up into Olympus.
As our feet touched the marble floors of the palace I opened my eyes and let my hand drop from Percy's shoulder. He looked around in confusion.
"You... you shadow traveled into Olympus?" He gasped. My brows furrowed with a frown.
"Is that not a usual thing?" I asked slowly. Am I not supposed to do that?
"Works for me," he shrugged with a smirk that didn't reach his eyes.
He started walking towards the tall doors, not bothering to knock as he swiftly pushed his way inside.
The festivities that roared continued as we entered. The gods sat at a long table while minor deities and demigods danced on the floor between us. Only the guests closest to us stumbled in their dance.
Percy waited silently. Time seemed to drag on as his patience whittled further away.
The fountains that adorned the room ceased their flow, and in a matter of seconds, a wall of water was engulfing the room. I stepped into the shadow behind a marble pillar and let Percy put on his show.
The fires snuffed, nectar and ambrosia washed away, and all eyes landed on Percy. His eyes alight with rage, he glared at the gods sitting at the table.
Some looked down their nose at him, but most looked on with surprise.
Finally, one of the gods stood.
"My son, we weren't expecting you!" he said with a grin. Poseidon walked around the table to greet his son, only to falter when noticing Percy's aura. "Percy? What's wrong?"
"Annabeth is gone," Percy growled. "Give her back, now!"
He glared at a woman sitting near the middle of the table who I assumed from her regal appearance is Hera.
She looked down at him as if he were a dog barking incessantly.
"And what makes you think you will get her back?" Hera asked, in an almost innocent tone.
I stepped out of the shadow and looked her in the eye. A chorus of gaps rang through the hall and I saw a flicker of emotion in her otherwise poised demeanor.
"Because we won't leave until we do."
