Of course, Evelyn wasn't too hard to find. She was in the center of the compound, firing two guns at a time and taking more ammunition from the dead soldiers when her own would empty. The troops quickly realized their bullets were having no effect, and switched to grenades and other explosives. This slowed Evelyn down, but she healed back before they could completely stop her. I noticed that she then began to target and shoot the grenades on the fallen soldiers' bodies, causing not only distractions but more casualties to nearby allies.
"Commander Simmons." I said as I approached the general. He was favoring his left arm, though if that was because of damage caused by Evelyn or myself I was unsure.
"Tell me why in God's name I shouldn't shoot you where you stand." He said firmly and raised his gun at me with his one good arm.
"I don't know what the hell you are, but you brought that other one here too, didn't you?""First, you know that it would have no real effect on me and you would be wasting bullets. Second, because I came back to help. I did not bring her here but nonetheless she is here because of me. I require the weapons that were in my bag and a few grenades if I am to stop her."
"Do you really think that after all this I'm-" he started to reply, but a nearby grenade explosion interrupted him. He dove to the floor and covered himself for protection while I stood my ground. I offered my hand and he waved me off and staggered to his feet.
"Alright. I guess I don't have much to lose." He said and handed me my guns from his holster. He also gave me back my favorite knives and I smiled and slid them back in my bag."I appreciate your cooperation. Tell your men to stand down, I don't need to be accidentally shot in the crossfire." I said and loaded my guns. He looked at me seriously for a moment and then talked into his communicator.
"Hold your fire and fall back. I repeat hold your fire and fall back to the barracks." He commanded and I saw all the soldiers around us start to obey.
"When this is over, if you survive, you and I are gonna have a long talk, Ms.Primera." He added."There is much to discuss, there always is. You may call me Eve, most people do." I replied.
"Hell, if you save my troop then I'll call you whatever you want." He marked with a light laugh. He then nodded and went to join the rest of the soldiers. That's when I noticed the firing had stopped, and Evelyn was looking directly at me.
"There you are, dear sister. I was hoping you'd join me on your own free will but I guess that's not going to happen. What, did you think you could just run and hide out here and I wouldn't find you?" She laughed and reloaded her guns as she started walking towards me. She now wore what seemed to be a bulletproof outfit and she had various holes in her face from being shot, however they were healing rapidly. Her eyes glowed red before returning to their usual state.
"Actually, I did not choose to come here on my own. However, you made my mission much simpler by finding me." I said and walked straight towards her.
"Please, you must remember this place, don't you? It's basically a homecoming for us." She sneered and started walking faster.
"What do you mean?" I asked slightly confused. None of the area looked all that familiar to me, but there wasn't much time to look around the scenery. Before I knew it, Evelyn lunged at me with a series of kicks and sent me stumbling back. She shot my leg and it threw me off balance while it tried to heal.
"Damn it," I growled and fired back and hit Evelyn in both her shoulders. She fell to the ground and I could see she was already healing.
"Talk, Evelyn, or I won't hesitate to end you." I said and pinned her down. I had my foot on her neck and pointed both guns down at her."Isn't it obvious?" She said while practically laughing. The bullet holes were closing up so I knew she'd be back at full strength any second.
"This is the base where you and I were made. Of course, not Evan, he was made first in Dr.Ramos' home before he had the robotics for us. That's what makes us superior to humanity, Eve, the fact that we aren't a part of them." She said and swept my legs out from under me. We both did a kip up and glared at each other.
"We were made to be better." She added."Yes, we were, but I believe only one of us has achieved that. I've seen the worst of humanity, and you're not too far off." I said and quickly spun and stabbed Evelyn deep in the stomach with my knife. She went falling back with a scream and tried to get the knife out, but it was stuck. I ran and kicked her in the shoulders to further limit her attempts.
"If you don't get that out in time your cells will just heal around it." I said and reloaded my guns. Evelyn looked back at me with an odd mixture of hatred and respect."Well played, Eve." She replied and snapped the handle off the knife so the blade lay hidden in her stomach. She spat out some blood and laughed quietly.
"That blades too deep for my cells to push out, it's stuck for now. When I get your command key I'll make sure you feel a pain much worse." She glared and in the blink of an eye threw a dagger into each of my feet. I yelled out in pain but was momentarily pinned down, and that second was all Evelyn needed. She took out another gun she was hiding in her jacket and opened fire. Each bullet hit me and the pain was intense, more so than usual. I yelled again and saw blood began to pool around me. Evelyn glared and knelt down besides me. I tried to get up but she quickly punched me in my ribs to weaken me back down. I coughed out blood and spat it at her angrily. She smirked and wiped it off and pressed her heel to my throat.
"See how easy things can change? Change is inevitable, Eve, we need it more than we know. How will your precious humans survive if they are not allowed to evolve? Humanity must be tested, pushed to its limits. Don't you see that's what Dr.Ramos wanted? If humans could all create people like you and I then there would be no more suffering, no more death." She smiled and I saw her eyes sparkle at the notion, even as my blood gathered on her boot.
"There would be no more humans." I stated, concluding her statement for her through gritted teeth.
"I'm sorry, but I can't believe that's what Ricardo wanted. Look around, there's plenty of suffering and death wherever you go, Evelyn." I added, sliding my hand in my pocket. I confiscated more weapons from General Hunter than he knew, including a large grenade. It would be risky, but had to be done to complete my mission."Don't be so pathetic, sister," Evelyn said mockingly,
"Maybe we aren't that much alike after all." She said with a small chuckle, but I saw a flicker in her eyes when she realized what was going on. She quickly hit a button on her belt buckle and it sent out a signal not perceivable for most humans, but I heard it. This, however, did not stop me from carrying out my mission."No, we're not alike." I replied and tossed the pin off to the side. I used all the strength I could muster to jump up and lunge at Evelyn, but she was just as fast. She shot me several times and I barely had enough time to throw the grenade at her. She dove as far as she could, and I did the same in the other direction. The explosion was deafening, the impact causing shrapnel to tear into both of us and we screamed out in pain. Evelyn was sent flying further away and I was stabbed in the back several times by the grenade fragments. There was smoke from the grenade, and my senses were going out of control. I couldn't use any of my sights and my ears were ringing nonstop. I tried to gather up the strength to stand, but could not. I heard vague yelling, then more gunfire, which surprised me. After a moment, I began to cough again and saw even more of my blood around me. My vision was out of focus as my sensors tried drastically to readjust themselves, I could practically feel my irises spinning and going haywire. The shooting got louder and closer, almost as if they were firing at me. I was finally able to adjust my vision and see, although it was somewhat in a haze. I saw a long black armored car between Evelyn's body and myself that took off after being pelted by a sea of bullets. I knew this was one of the same cars that belonged to Maximum Caliber, but I couldn't focus on that. The ringing in my ears grew louder and I coughed and spat out blood. My breathes shortened and I staggered up and fell, before shutting down.
