(A/N So sorry for not updating sooner!!!! Also, sorry, it's a shortish chapter)
Sherlock's POV
I wake up in a cold sweat. Glancing next to me I see John in a peaceful sleep. I smile at his cute expression, his eyes closed and lips slightly apart. His eyelashes flutter in his sleep as his eyes move during the REM stage.
My breath begins to slow as I watch him beside me, but I lay awake for what seems to be hours. Glancing at the clock every few seconds I finally get up, slowly so I don't wake up John.
He stirs slightly, and my foot pauses on the creaky floorboard when I turn around to see that he's still asleep. Creeping out of the room, I move to the kitchen and flick on the light. Sighing I place both hands on the edge of the sink, closing my eyes and trying to wish away the memories from the war. Gunshots echo in my head, explosions playback over in my mind, and my heart breaks for the men and women that I saw die before my eyes.
My bunkmates who never returned to their families, the pilots who died in the air. I feel tears brimming over my eyes and flowing down my cheek.
Somehow, I'm not surprised when I feel 2 familiar arms wrap around my waist and John's face press into my neck, leaving soft reassuring kisses.
"I can't say I understand." He says softly. "But I do love you."
"I'm sorry I kept you up." I say, sniffling, pulling away from the hug to look at John, my John.
He looks at me with a genuinely confused look on his face. "What are you talking about? I'm your boyfriend and when you can't sleep, I'll be here for you. I'll always be here for you."
I pull him back into a hug, trying to suppress my tears. "Thank you John." I manage in a tiny whisper. We hug and hold each other until little rays of light from the sun fill the kitchen and we both go about our morning routine.
Breathing out through my mouth I follow John to the bedroom to watch him get dressed for work. He yawns then smiles at me.
I smile sympathetically and he kisses me before heading out the door. What a wonderful man.
