My headcanon about kitsunes (and other immortal/barely mortal creatures) is that they age verrry slowly on a mental scale, i.e. the age when a kitsune can get a human avatar is 100 years but the kitsune is basically an adolescent (hard to say what age, maybe intelligence 17 emotions 11 etc.) by then.
