Chapter Five

B is for Bond and Bound

Brooklyn walked down Madison Avenue with her head held high eyeing off the stuff she knew she’d never be stupid enough to buy. But something caught her eye in the Tiffany’s window display.

A white gold long necklace with a mother of pearl pendant, similar to one she’d seen before in what might have been a dream.

“Tess?” someone called from behind her; and Brooklyn Girl looked up at the window to see the reflection of Mason Charles looking at her and her looking at his reflection.

“Um...” Tess said trying to find something to say, she’d avoided this moment for weeks now and suddenly it was happening outside of Tiffany and Co.

“I think we should talk some things over” said Mason Charles clearing his throat.

“What’s there to talk about, it’s not like you’ve been needed in my life before!” answered Tess in a huff. She obviously still felt confused about the situation and who could blame her.

“How about dinner to hear me out? We’ve got heaps we need to talk about since we both found out about each other.” Said Mason looking sheepish at her, a cool breeze beginning to roll around them.

Tess let out a shiver, she certainly wasn’t looking forward to the fast approaching winter and nor could she handle a dinner with her biological Father.

“Could we go somewhere now and maybe have a coffee instead?” she replied looking just as sheepish as he.

Tess watched as Mason looked at his Rolex wrist watch, “If you don’t have the time drop it and don’t even bother to waste my time!” Tess said annoyed.

When I found the two they were nestled in a swanky luxaturey cafe on Madison, they’d both ordered Latte’s and it looked like identical mud cake too.

They appeared like two peas in a pod, the alikeness freaky!

“So you’re on a scholarship at Elliot Alexandra Prep, you must be super smart to have gotten that?” said Mason opening up conversation.

“I always use to say I got my creativity from my Mom, but the brains from unknown sperm. That’s because Mom never would talk or tell me anything about who my father was, and now that I know some things still don’t add up!” Replied Tess looking directly at him as she said “Unknown sperm.”

“I can understand why your Mom never spoke of me or her life before you, Jennifer hated it and I think she hated me before she ran away.” Said Mason taking a sip of his coffee, my ears tuned in and listened egarly for the cliff hanger I was sure to follower.

“Hate you that doesn’t make sense when she’s never had a new boyfriend or ever even been married, I think she’s been stuck in a void with the past” replied Tess looking at Mason confused.

“Maybe the past is left unsaid at times your Mom was so different then, the world seems upside down since that dinner all I do know from it is you’re my daughter and it’s all linked to another time and space.”

“Don’t you mean a time and space that makes me, me? You’re both as cryptic as each other when it comes to talking to me about what happened to get on this planet we call Earth, how can I bond with any of you and build a relationship when you both can’t come and fess what happened sixteen years ago!”

Brooklyn was sitting still waiting for something else to be said, but there was a thick silence I knew wouldn’t be breaking anytime soon.

“Maybe you could come stay with me this weekend and you could meet my parents?” asked Mason with some hope.

“Um I’d like that but I’ve got to get Mom to agree to it and I promised my Grandmother something but with all the plans she makes for me I’ve forgotten what it was” replied Tess with a smile.

“Don’t worry I’ll see I get you off the hook with Mrs. Howard-Williams!” Mason smiled back.

It sure looked like to me that Brooklyn was going to be in for a weekend of family bonding and this was bound to shape her identity.

I can only wait in anticipation for secrets to be revealed this weekend and boy do I hope the weekend delivers them!
