The "dan" in dandere comes from the Japanese word "danmari" (黙り) meaning silence. Thus a dandere is a quiet and often antisocial character. Danderes often want to be sociable but are too scared or too embarrassed to talk.

"Hey, did you understand the homework given to us?" Hinata asked you. "N-no, I'm horrible at World History." You trembled. "Ah, then do you want to study with me? My club senpais teach me every now and then, Stingyshima too," he rolled his eyes. "It's annoying how he makes studying look effortless." You simply nodded, agreeing to every word your perpetually bouncy friend said. "So, you want to come? That is, if you don't mind going home late." It actually might not be a bad idea, especially now, that your grades are so low, it could kiss the Mariana's Trench if it puckered up a bit. "Y-yeah, sure, I guess.." You fidgeted, playing with the pompom key chain attached to your bag. "Oi, stop scaring (F/N)-san. You're practically looming over them." A voice said, followed by a noise of pain, probably coming from the small orange. "Bakagayama! As if you're any better!" the said orange yelped. "Then, I better get going, don't want to be late for volleyball! See you, (F/N)-san!" You simply nodded, and Hinata left with his bright smile, a tall blueberry right beside him. They kind of looked like the sun and the moon, they were the perfect contrast, and yet, they wouldn't be complete without the other, and the thought made you smile. Keeping a mental note that the duo would be your concept for your next sketch.

Art is what makes you calm down, it makes you feel at ease, since you really have this peculiar habit; being around energetic people makes you shake, it's not like they're particularly scary, but their energy and enthusiasm overwhelms you. Yet ironically, you were attracted to a certain senpai and wing spiker of the volleyball team. Thus, here you are, with your book bag in hand, knees shaking, standing in front of the gymnasium echoing with the familiar sound of shoes squeaking against the hardwood floors, an occasional shout here and there. It confused people, actually. You can't blame them either, you yourself did not think you'd fall for the loud sophomore. But somehow, your heart beats a thousand times faster when you hear his laugh, when your eyes meet with his for a split second, which to you felt like an eternity. You thought it was just some infatuation you'd get over with. You thought it was one of the many infatuations you'd have, similar to the attraction you feel when you see a handsome guy in the train, or the cute cashier at the convenience store you frequent to. You were shocked when it's been almost three months, and the swelling of your heart every time he passes your mind still hasn't left. Just imagine how shocked your best friend was when they heard the news.

"You like Tanaka-senpai?!" your best friend screamed at your face, "E-eek! N-not so loud, (B/F)-san!" you became flustered, your ears hot and cheeks warm. "H-he might be around!" you looked around warily. "Uh, that's certainly not the problem at the moment!" Your best friend whisper-shouted at you.

"There's no way you can talk to that bald delinquent! I didn't peg you to be one of those people," your best friend simply stated. "H-he's not a delinquent! Y-yama-san said that he's caring and almost brotherly!" You fidget, fiddling your cold fingertips.

"We both know how you are with those kinds of people! You fidget, tremble, stutter, go weak and at rare cases, you faint!" Your best friend told you, holding up five fingers.
"I-I stutter all the time!" you knit your eyebrows together in a worried expression, "and- and I'm getting better at interacting with them!" You reason.

"Honey, I love you and your happiness but I don't want you fainting again. I don't want to talk to you in English!" (B/F) said. It is because whenever you wake up from fainting because of energetic people, you wake up frantic and anxious and your English tongue takes over. An exchange student once came to help your nurse and teachers understand why you fainted.
