Hazel

"Please let go of me now."

"You can let go of me now."

"DANG IT, ZACHARY VALDEZ LET GO OF ME THIS INSTANT!!!"

"Okay, okay" but instead of letting me go, he lets go of my legs and holds me around my waist and kisses me, our wings in sync.

We are never going to get around to making cookies today.

Probably not

I want cookies.

"FINE, let's go make cookies." Zac FINALLY gives in.

"Get the flour, baking soda, sugar and baking powder. I'll get the vanilla extract, eggs, milk, butter, and food dye."

"Food dye?"

"Who says we can't have a little fun?" I smirk.

"It was fun a few minutes ago," Zac complains.

"For you."

"So it wasn't fun for you too?"

"I didn't say th-" I start but then finish, "so first, let's get the measuring cups. We need

2 3/4 cups flour,
1 teaspoon baking soda,
1/2 teaspoon baking powder,
1 cup softened butter(that's a stick.),

1 1/2 cups white sugar,
1 egg,

and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. I'll beat the butter."

"Okay. You seem to have everything down."

"As I said before, you're not the only person with a few tricks up their sleeve."

"Oh, really?"

Mix all the dry ingredients except for sugar in a bowl," I say, ignoring his question. Before I start beating the butter, I put the oven on 375*. I beat the butter, then add the sugar methodically. I then beat the eggs and vanilla.

"So what's the milk for?" Zac asks, breaking the silence.

"Have you ever heard of cookies without milk?" I question, "Ok. Now we mix everything together." When everything is mixed, I divide the dough in half, then in half again. "Choose two colors of food dye." He chooses red and blue. I take yellow and green and start dying one quarter of the dough yellow.

After I finish the green, I take all of the dough together.

After we put the cookies on the baking sheet and into the oven, I get out two glasses. "Tell me when," I say as I pour milk in a cup. Zac waits until the last moment to say, "When."

Then, I pour myself a glass.

BEEP! BEEP! The oven goes off. "Yay cookies!" I squeal.

Zac reaches for one, and I slap his hand. "Ow. What was that for?"

"Let them cool first." I say as I put them on a cooling rack.

"Mmmm, cookies," I say as I dip my rainbow cookie into my milk.

"Hey! You didn't tell me when you were going to eat them!"

"So? Where's the fun in that?" I question, putting some cookies on a plate. "Want to go in my room? I'll give you a private art lesson for watercolors."

"And where did you learn to paint?" He asks, following me to my room.

"I'm self-taught."

"Oh."

"What do you want to paint?" I say, getting out some canvas.

"Uhh. So many choices! How about a horse? You seem like an expert at painting horses."

"Are you sure that's what you want to paint?" I ask, now stretching the canvas out.

"A palmetto."

I get the paints out. "Let's begin!"
