Here it is! The first one-shot of the book requested by @sarcasticllamasarah. Hope this meets your expectations.
I was going to see Gemini. I arrive at the cafe where he is finishing an assignment with his friends. when I walked his friends were still there. Maybe I should wait outside. Just as I think that they stand up to leave. He was waving goodbye to them. As he watched them walk away he noticed me by the door. He smiled and I walked up to him. We gave each other a big hug and then parted.
"Did you finish your assignment?" I asked and he shrugged.
"Yeah, we got it finished, it was kind of a boring topic though," he says and it makes me giggle.
"Are you hungry, or do you just want to go for a walk?" He asks and it feels a little distant. I took no notice of it and answered his question.
"A walk sounds nice," I say and we exchange a smile as we exit the cafe.
"How was your shift," he asks me as we walk around the lake outside the cafe. I work at k-mart, it being the stereotypical first job.
"It felt a lot longer then it was, there was this one customer that kept asking if the baby clothes had a size that would fit her eight-year-old granddaughter," I explain the struggles of my horrible job and he laughs. I don't know what it is, but I know something is wrong. I don't think anyone else realised, but I can. He seems distant and sorta fake.
"What's wrong?" I ask I just wanted to ask him straight out.
"Nothing," he says smiling as he looks at me confused. I sigh. I know his hiding something. I don't mind if he doesn't tell me what it is, but I don't want to be with him when his pretending to be fine. We continued walking and I ignored it. We talked for a bit just about how our day was and stuff. The conversations weren't very deep because he was still walking with a fake smile. We walked past a bench and I asked if he wanted to sit down for a bit. We sat down on the bench in silence as we looked at the night sky. It looked kind of sad as the dark blue sky was overswept by the grey clouds that were blowing in and blocking the stars. After examining the skies movements I looked toward Gemini who was holding my hand tightly as he sat next to me on the bench. He was frowning. He must have felt my eyes on him because he looked towards me and plastered the same fake smile he had been wearing all afternoon back on his face. He put his arm around my shoulder pulling me into a hug.
"You don't have to tell me what's making you feel this way, but stop pretending to be happy. It's okay if you don't want to tell me what's wrong. I want to be with you even on your sad days," I say looking up at him as he held me in his arm. He looked surprised and then let out a small laugh, it wasn't a fake laugh, it was real this time. He looked down at me again and gave a small but genuine smile.
"Thank you," he whispered before kissing me slowly on the head and looking back towards the sky. We sat there in silence for a while, just being there for each other.
I hope you liked it. I know it wasn't as long as my one-shots normally are, but I was trying something new. Let me know what you thought. If you have any tips or recommendations don't be afraid to tell me in order to help improve future writings.
