The following day I awoke to the sun shining and a light breeze circulating my room, a few clouds seemed to hover in the sky conspiring as to what to unleash on Betws-y-coed today. You can call it a hunch, but something about today just didn't feel right, it felt all wrong. I read Matthew's note as usual, I have a drawer full of them now. I never have and never will throw a single one of them away, sometimes I just like to sit and read them.
I still never feel safe without him by my side, but reading these notes makes me feel like he is right here next to me in the flesh. I sat up straight in my bed and opened my locket, I love this picture so much I could look at it forever. I still can't get over how perfect he is, and why he would want to be with someone like me. But, love isn't logical it is something that cannot be explained.
When I was all clean from my shower and ready in my ripped jeans and green t-shirt, I hopped back on up the long, twisting staircase. As I swung the door open I saw someone standing by my window, my smile went to a frown as I realised that it wasn't Matthew standing there. This blonde-haired boy turned around to face me, it was Aaron my guardian angel. What was he doing back so soon? Had he come to give me another lecture about Matthew? Because if he has he can just leave now. I have already told Matthew all about Aaron, it seemed to add to the doubts in his mind about us. But, I managed to talk him around as always, at least I think I have.
"Aaron what are you doing here?" so soon, I muttered under my breath which was too low for him to hear as far as I could tell.
His face hit the floor at my words, "Satan knows Marissa." He looked up at me, his eyes were welling up the same way they did the last time I saw him. He held his arms firmly at his sides, his feet were stuck to the ground as though he had no choice but to stay in place.
What? But how? Oh no, what are we going to do? I had been hoping that this day would never come.
"The Guardian and Satan have demanded a meeting with you both today."
Today? That was too soon. My head was spinning, was this the end for Matthew and me already?
I watched as Aaron slowly lifted his head after he had let it fall, his eyes met mine. They tore away a second later as Matthew appeared at the window, he didn't look happy as he climbed inside and came to my side standing almost in front of me, protecting me.
He turned to me his earthly green eyes tracing my face, his face had a tight edge to it and his jaw was tight. Aaron obviously had this effect on him, just like any other angel would I suppose. His eyes remained soft and caring. "Why are you crying?
God, I hadn't even realised that I had been crying, I was in too much shock. He began to stroke my face, wiping the tears away with his fingertips. I watched as he turned to face Aaron, his eyes turned to disgust, hatred even. I had never seen him react like this towards someone before, his stare was as cold as that of a freezing cold breeze on a winters day. The hatred behind his eyes were so strong I thought if he stared at Aaron long enough he would burn a hole through his skin.
"What are you doing here? You are Aaron I presume?"
Aaron looked angry at Matthew even speaking to him, his fists were clenched, his jaw tightened and his eyes had been tensed up so much they looked like snake eyes. He now stood in a defensive stance, Matthew mirrored his position. I feel like I am in a cage with two lions waiting to wrestle one another to the ground.
"Satan knows about you two, and I am here to tell you that The Guardian and Satan have demanded a meeting with the both of you today." His words were just simply passing on a message, nothing more, nothing less. It was different from when he had spoken them to me not moments before, he had pity and worry in his voice, but now it was full of rage and irritation.
