“Hey, need help” a voice asked.
I jumped. There hadn’t been anyone in here when I had first come in.
“Uh, yeah. I’m supposed to see the Headmaster” I replied a little nervously.
“Alright, follow me. This school is pretty confusing, especially for a newbie” the voice (that actually belonged to a boy about my age) said.
I followed him through a few twisting, dark corridors before we reached a scarred oak door. I gawked at the gouges for a few moments before the boy knocked on the door, evidently deciding that I was not going to do it. Then he disappeared. I don’t mean he walked away, I mean he was there one moment and he was not there the next. Then the great oak door opened, and a wizened old man looked out.
“Come on in Jesse” he told me
I entered his office and perched on the edge of an overstuffed armchair.
“So Jesse, you have no knowledge as to why you are here correct?” the Headmaster asked
“No sir” I replied
“Alright, I’m going to tell you some things but I’m going to let you figure some other things out by yourself.” He told me.
“Uh, ok sir?” I said nervously
“Ok, and there are things that I am going to tell you that you will not believe right now. But in time you will, and I would never lie, especially to you” the Headmaster spoke in a grave tone
“Yes sir” I replied, equally serious
“We shall begin then. This academy is called Moontide Academy, mostly because many of the things that happen here are based off the moon, and the moon is based off the magnetic pull, or the tides. This academy is a safe house, and school for supernatural beings.” The Headmaster said
“What exactly do you mean by that sir” I asked confused
“Well there are witches, wizards, werewolves, vampires and shifters here at the academy. These are all creatures of light, but there is always a dark side” he paused to take a sip of water.
Dark side? Like Demons?
“The creatures of dark are imps, faeries, pixies and dragons. Also, yes Jesse there are demons.” the headmaster finished
‘How did he read my mind like that? I’m quite sure I did not speak aloud?!’ I thought to myself
The Headmaster chuckled a little, and I’m sure he was chuckling at me.
“Let’s go and get your room number and schedule” the Headmaster said with a smile on his face.
I followed him out of his office, pausing to look at the gouged door once more. Then we walked down so many dark and twisting hallways I lost count. We finally arrived in front of a small door. The Headmaster simply opened the door, ducked and walked in. He did not even knock! I followed him in and stepped into a small whitewashed room with a single desk in it. There was a shrewd looking woman with grey hair sitting behind the desk.
''Could we get Jesse Hollaw's schedule and room number please?” the Headmaster asked icily.
“Yes sir, one moment sir” the woman replied, hurridly typing on her computer.
Something beeped, which made me jump. Then I realized it was simply the printer, printing my schedule. The woman handed the paper to the Headmaster.
“So his room number-“
“I know how the system works, thanks” The head master cut in.
We exited the room and the Headmaster looked at the page. He looked confused when he looked at my schedule, but shook his head and carried on walking briskly down the corridor.
“Alright Jesse, let’s go up to your room” the Headmaster said, looking at the page more closely, to find the room number. He let out an exclamation of surprise.
“What is it sir?” I asked curiously.
“Nothing, nothing” he replied absentmindedly
We walked briskly through the corridors and I noticed each door was different. Most were painted in cheery colours such as blue or pink or purple, but a few were covered in posters. We walked up 2 flights of stairs and eventually arrived in front of a door that had the number 211 in the centre of the top of the door. This door definitely stood out from the others. It was a mahogany color with brass numbers, and a brass door handle. There was no sign of any thing ever being stuck to the door, and it looked freshly stained. These guys had expensive tastes.
