“Finally!” Ryan said.
“Well, at least he is dressed right” Erik said dryly
“Yeah we had to kick the last guy out because he would only wear board shorts.” Aaron said
“Alright, lets go. I’m starving!” Ryan exclaimed
“No you are not. You have plenty of food in you compared to all the poor people who live in places like China, Africa, or India” Erik said quietly
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m sorry Erik.” Ryan replied, equally quiet
After this brief conversation, we headed down the stairs to the cafeteria. There was a surprisingly short line.
“You noticing the line?” Aaron asked
“Yeah” I muttered, automatically going into my I-don’t-want-anyone-to-see-me mode.
“It’s because we are early” he replied
I looked at my watch. It read 7:30. I looked at Aaron confused.
“This is early?”
“Yeah, most people come around 7:52. But we like to be on time for our classes” Aaron said drily.
“Hey Jesse, what are your classes?” Ryan asked
“Uhm one minute” I said as I pulled out my schedule. “I’ve got Supernatural Basics, Outdoors, Shifter Lessons, and Spell Basics” I read out
“Well you have got history with me” Ryan said
“And shifter lessons with me” Aaron added
“I’ve got Outdoors second as well, so we will do that together” Erik added
“Would one of you mind drawing me a map or something, so I don’t get lost?” I asked
“No! When you get a newbie in your room, each roommate gets late passes so they can walk the newbie to their classes” Aaron said, holding up an orange pass
“Ok ok. Thanks guys!” I said, happy that I wouldn’t have to figure out this school all by myself
“We’d better go. The history classroom is the absolute farthest classroom from the caf” Ryan announced standing up and tossing his trash into a nearby can. I quickly followed suit and we left the other guys sitting at the table.
“Why do you guys dress so fancily? Not that I have a problem with it or anything, but do you not own jeans and t-shirts?” I asked Ryann as we were walking down one of the many dark corridors in the school.
“Well the school dress code demands that we wear a tie, but we take pride in our appearance. And I think it looks really weird to wear a tie and a t-shirt. Also Erik is quite popular, meaning everyone is pretty judgemental of him.” Ryan explained. “Everyone is either in love with him, or they despise him.”
“Oh. But do you and Aaron dress well just to support Erik, or do you have another reason?” I questioned Ryan further
“Mostly” Ryan said sharply
Uh oh. I think I touched a nerve asking if Ryan supported Erik. He did not see to appreciate that much.
We walked the rest of the way in silence. When we arrived at the classroom, Ryan indicated that I should go and talk to the teacher. Speaking of the teacher, she was a tiny, very old woman who had long white, curly hair. She glared at me over the top of her neon pink glasses as I approached.
“What would you like?” she asked briskly
“Um, I’m Jesse Hollaw, I’m new here ma’am” I stumbled over my words a little
“Oh! Well I was expecting someone a little more exciting, from all the talking the headmaster did.” The teacher muttered. “You can sit up there next to Mr.Bross” she said, motioning at the front row.
As I walked to my seat I thought I heard her mutter “so I can keep an eye on you” but I was not really sure.
“So, Mr. Bross huh?” I asked Ryan teasingly as I sat next to him
“She calls everyone by their last names Jesse” Ryan said icily
Okay! I guess he is still annoyed at me from earlier.
