“Hurry up and take your seats!” the teacher yelled. I had yet to find out her name.
An hour and a half later, I walked out of the history classroom very sleepily. Turns out that supernatural history was just as boring as regular world history! Ryan and I walked side-by-side to my ‘Outdoors’ class.
“Ryan are you mad at me?” I asked
“Sort of yeah” he huffed
“May I ask why?” I asked
“Just that you don’t understand anything! It’s not your fault, but I had a …. um….. different childhood, and some of the things you say and do brought up some bad memories.” he replied
“Okay, I’m sorry. And when you are ready, we can swap stories. I actually had a pretty crappy childhood too, so yeah” I finished off lamely
“I didn’t know that. I’m sorry for being angry at you for something you did not know” Ryan apologized
“Okay, onto happier topics. Let’s stop our little chick chat, and you can hand me over to Erik” I said “by the way, what is Outdoors?”
“It’s kinda like a self-defence/gym class. But it is not outside, so I have no idea why it is called Outdoors” Ryan replied
“Great.” I muttered. “I HATE gym and self-defence is not my strong suit either! Is there any dance classes here!” I said frustrated, before covering my mouth. I did not want my roommates to know about my ‘girly’ tendencies
“S’okay, I won’t tell anyone. I used to dance before things turned sour at home” Ryan told me. “And yes they do have dance classes here, although I would advise taking Outdoors at least once”
“Okay, thanks Ryan” I replied
Erik appeared round the corner just then, slightly out of breath.
“Hey guys” he said
“Hey” I replied
“Ready to go Jesse” he inquired
“Uh huh, even though from what Ryan says, I will probably be in the nurses office within minutes of walking into class” I replied
“Ryan what horror stories did you tell him?! It’s not really all that bad Jesse” Erik said punching me lightly
We entered the classroom, and I stopped dead in my tracks. This was not a gym, like I was expecting, it was a huge arena with a dirt floor! There was all manner of weapons hung neatly on the wall, and a short muscular man was walking around looking at all the battle gear
“Mr. Servik, we have a new student” Erik called
The teacher turned with a start
“Oh Erik, you scared me! Who is this?” he replied, walking over to us
“I’m Jesse sir” I said
“Alright, come on down. We’ve got to fit you with battle gear” he said, motioning me and Erik down, into the centre of the arena
“Wait what?! There is real fighting? I thought it was self-defence! I will definitely be headed to the nurse’s office today” I muttered. Erik threw me an amused glance
“I think you will be about a 9.” Mr. Servik said to himself “Take off your shirt, what are you waiting for, Christmas? We don’t wear anything under our armour”
I loosened my tie and threw it at Erik. Then I slowly unbuttoned my shirt and tossed that at him too. Then I glanced up at the teacher.
“What physical activity do you do?! I don’t think I have ever had a student this muscular BEFORE my class ever!” Mr. Servik exclaimed
It was true. I had a six-pack, and solid arm muscles. But it was only because of dance.
“Uh well, I dance” I muttered under my breath.
“Speak up boy!” Mr. Servik said.
“I dance sir” I said a little louder.
“Well maybe you ought to join the dance program here” He told me.
“That would be nice sir, do you know how I could join?” I wondered aloud.
“I have a sheet you can fill out, and bring to the headmaster” Mr. Servik said, pulling out a sheet. “Now go find a seat”
I hadn’t realized that the classroom had filled up and everyone had pulled out chairs and was currently watching me and Mr. Servik. I hurried back and pulled out a chair next to Erik. Mr. Servik talked for a while, then told us to go put our armour on. I got mine from the wall, and stripped off my shirt once again. There was quite a few girls checking me out, and I felt quite uncomfortable. I pulled the armour on, and waiter for Mr. Servik to give the next instruction.
“Okay class, pair up” Mr. Servik announced.
I looked wildly around for Erik, but he was already paired up with someone else.
“Jesse, you can come up here with me” Mr. Servik said.
Great, now I will be a spectacle for everyone to see.
“Okay, can you touch your toes?” Mr. Servik asked me.
“Yeah, of course sir…” I said, slightly confused. Wasn’t this supposed to be a fighting class?
“Show us please” Mr. Servik said.
I did as he asked, and bent from the waist, and touched my toes.
“Can you put your hands flat on the floor?” He asked again.
“Yes… sir” I replied hesitantly.
“Do it” he commanded
I bent over once again and put my hands flat on the floor in front of my feet, then beside them and finally behind my feet, as Mr. Servik asked me to.
