DING DONG
That is the first doorbell I have ever heard that actually sounds like a ding followed by a dong; but that is besides the point. I have been really nervous about this party. What if both Emma and I get so drunk that we end up doing it? This is going to be a-
"Hi. Kaeden right?" This adorable old lady must be Emma's grandmother.
"Yes ma'am."
"Oh please. Call me Shirley." She sounds so polite. I already like her.
"grandma? Is That Kaeden at the door? You can let him in he's a good guy" Emma calls from somewhere else in the house.
"Well, I guess you can come in. There is some cookies on the table if you're hungry."
I walk in and close the door quietly. Show me was not lying. There was an entire platter of an assortment of cookies. Chocolate. Chocolate chip. Sugar. Basically any cookie that you can possibly think of.
While waiting for Emma, I eat chocolate chip cookie and just look at Twitter on my phone. When I hear some one come down the stairs I figure it's Emma so I stand up; but when I look at who is coming down it was a boy.
"Who are you?" He asks.
"Um I am Kaeden. Emma's date to this party. Who are you?"
"Wow. Calm down bucko. I am just Emma's step brother Josh. No competition in this house.
"Sorry. I was just-I mean-"
"Calm down. She is almost ready. You are the only guy that she is interested in." Wait she actually does like me?!
"Thanks Josh."
"No prob. EMMA! YOUR LOVER IS HERE!" He practically makes me deaf in this moment.
"SHUT UP JOSH! I HAVEN'T EVEN SLEPT WITH HIM FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!" Emma has a very projected voice, but it's still beautiful.
I hear a door open or close, I'm not quite sure as to which one it actually is. As I'm turning around all I can say is "wow".
"What? Too much?" She looks worried
"No. You just- you look amazing."
"Oh well thank you. Are you ready to go then? Did you get a cookie? The chocolate chip are the best."
"Yes I did get a cookie. Let's go"
She giggles and goes out the door. When the door shuts she runs next to me and holds my hand the way couples do. And to be honest it gives me butterflies.
The drive to India's house isn't too crazy, we just sing along to the radio and dance.
"This could be something, if you let it be something" we sing and I start letting go of the wheel. "Kaeden both hands on the wheel, we don't want to get in a crash now."
"Sorry. I just got caught up in the song."
"Yeah, I could tell."
Now that the awkwardness is back I just decide to say so.. "I have a question but I have no clue how to ask it."
"Well first off, just ask. That is all you have to do." She doesn't understand.
"And you promise you won't be harsh?"
"God Kaeden. Would I do that?" As she asks that, I pull up to India's house.
"Well no, but-" She interrupts me by leaning over the cup holders and kisses me. Not just a peck, she holds it for a while. The only thing I am able to say is, "Well I guess that answers my question."
"Were you going to ask me to be your girlfriend? Cause if so, I definitely want to be your girlfriend."
"Well it was."
"Sweet. Hold my hand while we are walking into the party so that everyone will know and keep their hands off of you."
"Okay. I will." She kisses me again before we exit the car.
While we are walking to India's house, I realize that there is no music, no cars, and also no drunk people outside. "Where is everybody?"
"They should be here. You sure you got the right address?" Emma asks.
"yeah." That's all I can manage to say.
When we reach the porch I notice that there is a note on the door. It reads:
Hi Emma! Kaeden. I bet you are wondering where the party is right? Well there is no party! Well except for you two. There is a spare bed upstairs to the left. Have fun!
XOXO India
Shit. India set this up because she wants to ruin both our reputations. I hand the note to Emma. "Should we just leave then?" I ask her.
"Well I told gramma that I would be gone until tomorrow, so she probably locked all the doors. I can't go home."
"Oh. Um do you want me to drop you off at a friends' house?"
"Why don't we just stay here tonight?" What. She wants to do it? Has this been her plan, to just help India hurt me?
"Um yeah I guess if that's what you want to do."
"It kind of is.." She hesitates, so I grab the key and open the door. Looking at the note one last time and I lead her inside.
