tyler made his way up to his english class, fearing what would happen without josh by his side. he knew it made him sound clingy, which he really wasn't, but he just didn't want to have to deal with strangers without a familiar face by his side. how was he supposed to know who to talk to and who to avoid?
he sucked it up and made it to class right on time, taking a seat at the front of the room. the teacher smiled brightly at him, relieving some of his pent up worry.
"tyler, right?" she asked, thick accent lacing through her words. "i'm ms. diamandis, i've been looking forward to having you in class."
"yeah, that's me." he smiled, watching as she placed a thick book onto his desk, the front cover displaying the words 'beowulf' in big, bold lettering. tyler cringed, remembering all of his older friends at his last school complaining about how horrible it was.
"you don't look too pleased," ms. diamandis pointed out with a small laugh. "it's not my favorite book either, but we're almost done with the unit so you won't have to worry about it for much longer."
and with that tyler was alone again, watching as the lesson began. he zoned out a bit, thinking about what josh said about the tattoos. what tattoos do he want? he had always been enthralled with small flower tattoos, or quotes and sayings. maybe a little heart or a moon, or even-
"wanna work with us?" a chipper voice interrupted his thoughts and he looked up, a group of two girls sitting down at the desks beside his own with their books in hand.
"work on what?"
"the read aloud, silly! we noticed you were sitting alone and needed a group," one of the girls said, and tyler could tell she was the 'queen bee', per se. she had sandy blonde hair and clear blue eyes, freckles dotting across her cheeks. she was beautiful, tyler couldn't deny that.
"yeah, sure. that's fine," he mumbled, flipping to the page written on the board.
"we heard your name is tyler," the other girl spoke, to which he nodded in agreement. "i'm debby and that's jenna."
tyler soaked up the new information, sending them a fake smile as he began to read, wanting to get rid of them as quickly as possible.
they all took turns reading each paragraph, finishing up the assigned pages within ten minutes. tyler expected them to leave after they were done, but his wishes did not come true as they took the extra time to bombard him with questions. fake questions, may he add; the ones people only asked when they pitied you.
"where'd you get your sweater? it's adorable." debby reached out, running her hand over the fraying fabric.
