his hair is so fluffy???? he looks like a neon cotton ball and i'm loving it
boyfriends. that one word held so much meaning to tyler. it could make him feel on the top of the world one minute, but the next minute it could make everything come crashing down on him, the weight of the world bearing heavily on his frail body. he loved it, but he despised it in a way.
he refused to allow his own negativity to get in the way of his first official relationship, especially since he cared for josh and brendon so deeply. not only were they his boyfriends, but they were also his best friends. he could be himself around them, living freely without a care in the world. they made him feel like a normal teenager.
the best feeling, though, was being able to say boyfriends, plural. i mean, how cool is that? it meant double the attention, double the caring, double the cuddles, double the kisses, and just double every single great thing that came along with a relationship. you know what they say, two is better than one.
it was going to be difficult to explain to people, that was for sure. they had only told josh's mom, but that was only because she had walked in on tyler sitting on josh's lap as he went back and forth from brendon to josh, giving both of the boys kisses. she gave them her full support and expressed her happiness for them, something that was comforting since they worried so much about what people would say.
tyler fumbled with the sleeves of his sweater as he sat in the backseat of brendon's car, leaning into josh's side as his boyfriend ran his fingers soothingly through the soft brown waves that sat atop his head. his eyes were closed in contentment and he happily hummed, trying to keep himself from dozing off because the gesture was just so comforting.
brendon was driving them to the park for their first official date and tyler was nearly bursting with excitement. brendon had packed them some pizza rolls and chocolate chip cookies for lunch, promising to take them to ice cream after, as well. it was an extremely cliche first date but tyler couldn't have asked for more. he loved sappy love stories and he always dreamed of going on a picnic date, so to him it was perfect.
he tilted his head up, making eye contact with josh as both of their lips tugged up into smiles of adoration, the yellow haired boy leaning down a bit as he rubbed their noses together, giving tyler an eskimo kiss as giggles began to bubble out of the brunette's mouth.
"you're so stinkin' cute," josh marveled, hand cupping tyler's cheek as he peppered a light kiss over tyler's plump lips.
"hey, save some love for me," brendon chuckled from the driver's seat, peering into the rear view mirror and catching sight of his boyfriends.
"of course," josh and tyler said at the same time, the three boyfriends breaking out into laughter that pulled at their heartstrings and made their stomachs erupt into butterflies. tyler got slightly breathless from laughing and he began to cough, josh immediately bringing his hand to tyler's back as he rubbed it up and down in attempt to soothe the boy. eventually tyler stopped and settled into josh's shoulder, shoulders shaking as he tried to even out his shaky breaths.
"it's okay, baby. just breathe, you're okay now. i've got you," josh whispered, comforting tyler as they felt the car stop and brendon shifted into park, turning back to look at tyler with worried eyes.
"we're here, are you sure you're feeling up to this? we can take you home and just relax there if you'd prefer."
tyler shook his head in opposition and unbuckled his seatbelt, shifting away from josh as he grasped the door handle and began pushing it open.
"i wouldn't pass up the opportunity to go on my dream date with my dream guys, i promise you i'm okay," tyler assured, stepping out of the car as he hauled his oxygen tank along with him, brendon grabbing the food and josh taking the blanket as they made their way to a shaded spot under a large tree.
they smoothed the blanket out on the prickly grass and sat down on it, tyler smushed between josh and brendon as they both snuggled into him. it was everything tyler had imagined and more, the situation feeling so surreal to him. here he was, the boy who never wanted anything to do with romance, cuddling with his two boyfriends as they all shared kisses every once in a while. to other people it may have seemed weird, what with him dating two people at once, but he wouldn't have it any other way.
"are my babes hungry?" josh asked, leaning over and grabbing the pizza rolls as he took a few for himself and passed them off to tyler, who did the same and gave it to brendon. they all ate in silence, enjoying the food and each others' company, loving the way the silence around them was never awkward. tyler felt like king of the world when he looked over at brendon and josh, because they were his boyfriends, and they liked him, and they wanted him despite his disease.
"thank you," tyler mumbled, more so speaking to himself than his boyfriends, but they heard anyways.
"what are you thanking us for?" brendon responded, eyebrows furrowed in question.
"everything," tyler shrugged. "you accept me for who i am and you don't see me any differently than everyone else, which is something i'm not used to. you make me want to fall in love, and that scares me. i used to hate the thought of love but whenever i think of you guys i find myself getting that fluttering feeling i got when we first kissed. we haven't been dating for long, not at all, but you two have opened up a new perspective on life that i never expected myself to have before i met you both. so i thank you for that."
"you deserve all the love in the world," josh said, the truthfulness seeping through his voice. "you're amazing, and i'm so fucking lucky to have the privilege of dating you and brendon."
"don't thank us, you're so amazing and i couldn't be happier," brendon spoke, beaming brightly as tyler giggled and kissed his cheek before doing the same to josh.
"thank you for not caring about my cystic fibrosis."
"thank you for allowing us to help you find the love you deserve."
