chapter 3: Friday!!

Katarina's Pov:

"Girl come on. Why do you look so down? Even Kat is oddly happy today!" J.J exclaims to Alex.

"My mum was drunk again last night. She finished off three bottles of vodka an then passed out on the couch after crying to me about how much she loves me and shit!" Alex explains.

"Oh man Alex...she still hasn't gotten over the divorce?" J.J asks.

"No. She gets drunk every night. Looks at his picture and cries and then I comfort her!" She explains.

"It's been two months...I understand she loved your dad but he cheated on her..." I whisper.

"That's the thing Kat! He cheated on her multiple times after seventeen years of marriage!" She exclaims.

"Okay okay. I get you're upset Alex but no need to take it out on us!" J.J explains.

"I know I'm sorry...I just need this to stop!" She sighs.

"Then tell her that. Tell her you're sick of her being drunk and shit. Tell her he's gone and she needs to realize it and get her ass in gear. Even if she's drunk when you tell her she'll remember it!" J.J explains.

"Yeah I guess. But it's Friday like you said. There's two more classes after lunch and then we're out of here! What do you guys wanna do after school?" She exclaims.

"I'm actually doing something today so I can't hang out but I'll see you guys tomorrow for the beach!" I explain.

"Alright. Well I'm free! Let's go to starbucks!" J.J exclaims.

The rest of lunch we talk and during gym we found out that the new English teacher will also be the new gym teacher.

I really hope he's not some old guy or some sexist asshole.

School ends and I hop in my car and take off.

I pull down the familiar street and park in the driveway. I climb out of my car and close the door behind me.

I get up to the front door and knock.

I've been here plenty of times over the years but I still get nervous.

"Oh my. Katarina! Come on in. She just got home from the babysitters!" Nate exclaims moving out of the doorway.

I walk into the kitchen and see her sitting at the table eating a small pack of gold fish.

"Mariana!" I smile.

She looks over at me and smiles before running towards me.

I pick her up with a smile and hug her tight.

"How was the babysitters?" I smile.

"Okayy!" She giggles.

I smile and set her down so she can go play. I sit at the table with nate and Ronnie.

"So how is she? I'm sorry I missed last Friday! Something came up!" I explain.

"Shes been good. She asks for her mommy constantly though!" Ronnie explains.

"Maybe we shouldn't have told her. You guys are supposed to be her parents. I'm her mother but no one else knows. I can't have her telling anyone!" I explain.

"We know that Katarina! But she deserved to know. You come every Monday and Friday! What were we supposed to say?" Nate exclaims.

"You could've said I was a friend you know! But I guess I do like it better that she knows I'm her mom." I smile.

"Mommy!!" Mariana giggles running towards me. "I made dis for you!" She smiles and hands me a picture.

I smile and look at it. She drew me and her in crayon.

"I love it baby girl. But mama has to go now. I'll see you on Monday okay!" I smile.

"No mommy! Stay! I wanna live wif you!" She says tearing up.

"Oh baby girl. I want you to too! In time baby okay. Mommy just has to finish her school and then we will figure something out!" I explain and kiss her on top the head.

"Okay mommy! Byee!" She exclaims and runs back to her room.

I say goodbye to Ronnie and nate and head home.

I jog inside and towards the stairs when my mom calls me into the kitchen.

I walk into the kitchen to see her sitting at the table..not too happy.

"Where have you been? Every Friday and Monday you disappear after school for at least an hour and a half!" She exclaims.

"It's nothing mom." I explain and turn around.

"Katarina! Do not turn away from me. Tell me what's going on!" She exclaims.

"Okay...fine! Remember that trip you went on almost three years ago? Remember how you were gone for like almost a year? Well there's something that happened that I didn't tell you about and you're gonna be really mad!" I explain.

"Katarina! What are you talking about?" She exclaims.

"Mum...I...I have a daughter!" I explain.

She looks at me wide eyed and baffled.

"Shes almost three years old. She's staying with some friends on the other side of town." I explain.

"Katarina! How did you even get pregnant! No...why didn't you tell me!?" She exclaims.

"I went to a birthday party I was invited to and I got raped...." I whisper.

"Katarina! You went through all of that and you didn't tell me!? I'm your mother!" She exclaims.

"I was scared." I explain.

"You've been lying to me for almost three years Katarina! How didn't people notice? You had school!" She exclaims.

"I faked a note from you and gave it to my teacher. It said I'd be home for a few months so all my work should be send through email..." I explain.

"Oh mother of God! Katarina! I don't even know how to feel about this!" She exclaims.

"Just think about it mum. You've got a granddaughter. She's beautiful too! You can meet her If you like!" I explain.

"I...I definitely would like to meet her" She whispers.

"I know this is a lot mum but you'll love her. I names her Mariana...after your middle name!" I smile.

She smiles and hugs me tight.

"Next time something big like this happens. Come to me please!" She exclaims.

"Okay." I whisper.

"So when can I see her?" She asks.

"Monday. That's the next time I see her. I'll pick her up after school and bring her here.." I explain.

"Alright well go upstairs and get some rest. J.J stopped by and she said she'd be here by nine so..." She laughs.

"Oh dear. Well alright! Night mum! Love you!" I exclaim and head up to my room.

She was the one person I was worried most about. Now that she's out of the way...once I graduate I'll tell j.j and Alex.
