She loves me. I grab the closest Snickers bag and arc throw it into the woven metal cart. It lands, sweet.
She loves me not. I grab the next item on the list, a plastic bag gummy worms in all their different iterations (sour, rainbow, and cherry for the discerning) and toss it over my shoulder.
"Shit dude, you almost hit me," Kyle says, I turn around and smile.
"Sorry dude!" I walk to the next row of candy concoctions. Pumpkin shaped dark chocolate for the girls. I turn around and hold it above my head.
"Go long!" I say. Kyle smiles and puts his hands above his head, not moving, but Kenny appears at the end of the seasonal aisle.
"I'm open!" He yells, dropping his arm's full of jello powder and plastic-covered magazines. I arc my arm back and release, watching the Orange bag spiral until Kenny jumps in the air and catches it to his stomach.
"Yeah!" He says and pretends to throw it on the ground. "Touch down!"
I laugh, Kenny laughs, and Kyle halfway smiles. Good, I haven't lost him completely to the new black-wearing depressing music-listening unsmiling version. He seemed better this week but I'm genuinely wondering if I should worry. Cartman came back too, much to my dismay. Stupid asshole, I can't tell if he's more annoying or stubborn, but fighting with him seemed to give Kyle some energy back so that's good I guess, weirdly enough.
"Is that everything?" He asks as Kenny returns and dumps the overflowing twenty single jello boxes and the orange bag of chocolate into the cart.
"Let's see," I fish the crumpled list Shelley gave me out of my jeans pocket. "Chocolate, gummy worms, spaghetti, tomato sauce, apples, jello...
"Porn?" Kenny smiles and raises the magazine to my face hopefully. Big titted brown women stare back at me over the colorful exploding stars covering their asses.
I laugh and take it from his hand, "Need me to pay for it again?" Kenny nods and pushes a stray blonde strand out of his face. I sigh. "Throw it in." He beams and the cart rattles with the weight of the thick porno mag dropped into it.
"Why did you have to do the shopping for her party?" Kyle asks, lazily pushing the cart behind me and holding a medium white half full coffee.
"It was the only way I could invite everyone I wanted without her kicking them out. Besides, she's providing the booze," I state, leading our shopping group to the self check out. Kyle starts emptying the cart onto the metal platform and I type in my family's membership info.
"Who else?" Kenny asks. "Me, you, her," pointing at Kyle who frowns as Kenny grins, "Token, Craig, Cartman, Butters, Bebe, Wendy-
Don't say it, Stan. They're tired of my moping and frankly I am, too.
"And Pete, Micheal, Firkle and Henrietta," I add glumly, swiping the gummy worms. The machine responds with a beep.
"Seriously? You're inviting them?" Kenny asks, hoping I'm being sarcastic.
"They're not that bad, they're actually pretty great around Halloween," I start.
"Who are they?" Kyle asks, taking a small sip from his cup.
Kenny gives the biggest exasperated roll of his blue eyes, "The goth kids."
"What? Come on, Stan," Kyle says. "Why? You need to surround yourself with depressing people because of not working out your shit with Wendy?"
Right there. Right in the heart. "They've been my friends almost as long as you guys have. Give them a chance," I protest. "Besides, they have acid."
