Five Years Ago
"Mom!" I screamed from the back seat.
"Yes hunny" My mother replied sweetly.
"Are we there yet?" I asked impatiently jumping up and down on my seat. Mom had promised to take me to the fair to make me feel better. Let's just say it just hasn't been my week. Not that it ever is. It's always the same.
"Calm down hunny, we've only been driving for five minutes" She answered keeping her calm.
"Aren't you a bit too old to be going to funfairs? I mean you're 13 years old" Dad chimed in teasing me.
"You're never too old to go to a funfair dad. Everyone always has a blast, no matter how old you are" I scolded at him and then giving him a pointed look implying that he's old.
"Are you implying that I'm old?" He asked raising his eyebrow.
"You said it, not me" I quickly replied shrugging my shoulders and smiling at him cheekily.
"Alright you, stop being cheeky now" Mom said chuckling lightly.
Taking a deep breath I raised my shoulders and then my arms before huffing and slumping then back down again whilst my back hit the seat.
Sitting quietly I looked out the window. Seconds passed and I couldn't take the silence anymore.
"Are we there yet?" I asked again.
"No darling. Not since the last time you asked" Dad said looking down at his watch. "Which was only fifty seconds ago" He added with a chuckle.
"Okay fine" I gave up. Not. "Are we there yet?" I repeated to annoy my dad.
He turned around to face me taking his eyes of the road.
"Payton" He warned and you could hear the seriousness in his voice all traces of joking gone.
Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Gone.
"Alright, yeah you're right I should-" my eyes darted towards a furniture van heading towards us. Right to us. My eyes were bulging out of my sockets and I could feel my parents staring at me confused their eyes on me not on the road.
"Dad!" I screamed from the top of my lungs. When he turned his head around to look, it was too late. The van came crashing to us, squashing us against a tree.

My eyes fluttered open. They were blurry and I could barely see anything. Squeezing my eyes shut I picked up my hand up to rub them. But they had wires attached to them. Opening my eyes they were slowly going back to normal. I feel like I've been asleep for so long. Looking to my left I saw a monitor that was beeping as the lines on the screen jumped up at every beep.
Looking back at the ceiling I tried to think where I was. Where was I?
"Hello Payten. Finally decided to wake up eh?" A lady in a nurse uniform asked me. Nurse? Am I at a hospital? Why?
I gave her a nod instead of saying anything. I just didn't have it in me to say anything. I didn't know what to say.
"You're at the pack hospital. Do you know why?" She asked caustiously.
Pack?
I shook my head telling her 'no'. She wrote down something on a clipboard. What was she writing?
"Try thinking about it please?" She told me.
Why can't she just tell me? Without thinking I shook my head.
"Try harder please" She pleaded. I took that into consideration. Closing my eyes I tried to think of the reason why I would be here. But I couldn't think of anything. My mind was completely blank. Racking through my brain I tried to remember. But still nothing.
