Whispers

I heard the usual whispers walking through town. I'd been there a few months, and the gossip was beginning to die down, but people were still curious. Body mutations large and small were a common occurrence. People wondered how grotesque I must've been under the mask I wore to cover my eyes.

But the way my eyes looked was not the reason for the mask, it was how my quirk operated.

A memory from years ago burned in my mind, the day I learned what my quirk was. My parents unmoving. Frozen by this power.

I sat in the living room, doing my homework, Dad was cooking dinner and mom was in their shared office.

"Seventeen...times eight... Mooom? I need help again.."

"Bring me the notebook, let's go through it again."

I dragged my notebook from the table, and rubbed my eyes as I walked to the office.

"First things first, show me how you set up the columns."

"Okay.."

"Now, what's seven times eight?"

I looked up at her. "I don't know. What is it?" She didn't answer, she didn't move. "Mom? Daddy! Mom isn't moving!"

I had to turn my mind away, I'd made it to my destination anyways. UA High. I wasn't good enough to get in five years ago, and that hadn't changed. But there was someone I needed to meet.

I pressed the buzzer and waited for someone to come speak with me.
