"Okay, everyone! Get into your groups and grab your GPS's so you can start," Mr. Burns said. I grabbed the GPS and walked over to my group consisting of Shaw, Adrian, and Katherin. Let's just say that I didn't pick who's in my group. Adrian's fine but everyone else is just... meh.
"Come on, let's get this done and over with," Katherin grumbled with her arms crossed. I rolled my eyes. I never really liked her and I got the feeling that today wasn't going to help.
"What's with the sunglasses?" A voice asked from behind me and I tense my muscles to keep from jumping. I quickly turned around to see it's Shaw with a smirk plastered on his face. An image of me smacking it away crossed my mind but I knew only bad would come from that.
"My eyes are sensitive to the light," I lied but he didn't need to know the real reason nor did anyone else. All it would cause is problems.
"The sun isn't even showing." He accused me with a tone like I was a criminal who'd committed the highest crime. I rolled my eyes (even though he couldn't see) and didn't answer. Adrian took the GPS from me and looked at it.
"To get to the first mark we have to go south," Adrian said and faced said direction. "Come on." We followed him into the forest, constantly taking turns. We stopped and Adrian looked at the GPS and his eyebrows pressed together in confusion.
"It should be here," he murmured, staring atthe screen as if it held all and every secret.
"Well," Katherin dragged out, "it should be around here somewhere. Maybe we should split up and look for it."
"I was thinking the same thing, I'll go with Asena and you and Adrian go together," Shaw declared and no one fought him on the decision.
"Sure! Come on, Adrian." Katherin dragged Adrian off and I grumbled. I faced Shaw and crossed my arms.
"What do you want now?" I asked, harshly.
"What's with the sunglasses anyway?" He asked and before I could stop him, he took my sunglasses off, revealing my eyes. I quickly looked away.
He took his hand and turned my face to face his, his grip strong enough to hold me in place. His head tilted as he looked at my eyes, confused. A growl started in my throat.
"Your eyes are golden... the question is, why? I've never heard of a werewolf having golden eyes during the day of the full moon. In fact, I don't think you're a werewolf at all. And yet..." - he drew in my scent rather obnoxiously - "you still smell like a wolf," he said curiously. I barred my teeth.
"Great, I'm the freak of the supernatural andhuman society!" I sneered.
"You're not a freak, you're just different," he assured me. I blinked in surprise. Never would I have thought he would say something like that. He took a small step towards me. "I just wonder how your friends would react if they found out. Especially Adrian." My eyes widened and my breathing quickened alongside my heart at his thinly veiled threat.
"You can't say anything to them! Please, I-!" I choked. The thought of losing my friends, of being exposed, created a new kind of terror that ran through my veins. "Please, I'll do anything, just don't tell them." He looked thoughtful.
"You know, now that I think about it, I haven't eaten since yesterday before school," he smiled and I frowned as he released me.
"There's a lot of food at the camp, but what does that ha-" I stopped myself when I realized what he meant. I gulped when he flashed his sharp teeth and his eyes turned blood red. I took a step back.
"Well, if you would rather me kill one of your classmates for blood and tell everyone your secret..." He shrugged and turned around.
"No, wait!" I said quickly and used my hand to turn him around. He smirked.
"I thought you would say that," he said softly. He tilted my head, revealing my neck. He took a step even closer so that his hard chest was pressed against mine. I could feel his breath against my skin as he held my head almost tenderly. I closed my eyes.
"Will it hurt?" I whispered.
"Only if I want it to." If he meant that to be reassuring, he failed. Leaning forward, he sank his teeth into my neck. At first, it hurt, and then the pain faded, replaced with something close to pleasure. My body went limp and he wrapped his arms around me, stopping me from falling. I felt my back hit a tree and he still didn't stop drinking. I groaned softly. I was starting to feel light headed but there was nothing I could do about it. I was immobile.
As much as it felt good, he was still drinking too much blood.
"Shaw... you have... to stop," I managed to breathe out. It took a couple seconds before he listened and removed his teeth from my neck. The feeling of pleasure disappeared and I could then think clearly.
I shivered when I felt his tongue drag across the bite marks. He let me go of me and stepped back, causing me to fall onto my butt with the tree scrapping against my back. I looked up at him; his eyes were still blood red, filled with a lust and hunger. He licked the blood from his lips.
"Sorry. I've just never tasted anything like it... and to think I thought werewolf blood was good," he said, almost panting as if speech was difficult for him right now. I heard footsteps coming this way. Shaw must have heard it too because he quickly crouched in front of me. His blood red eyes quickly turned back to his cold ones and my hands moved to my neck, feeling for bite marks but there nothing - not even the feeling of sticky blood. Adrian appeared through the trees.
"Hey, is everything alright?" He asked, looking at Shaw suspiciously. My eyes widened when I realized I didn't have my sunglasses on. As if sensing my distress, Shaw quickly handed me my sunglasses and I put them on.
"Everything is fine, Asena was just feeling light headed so she sat down," Shaw lied smoothly. He winked at me before standing up and turning to face Adrian. I stood up to stand beside Shaw. "Did you and Katherin find the box with the clue in it?" On cue, Katherin walked over, soaking wet from head to toe with a metal box in hand. She's frowning and doesn't look very happy.
"It was in a stream! A flippin' stream! When I went to go grab it, I fell!" She yelled furiously. I started to laugh like a crazy person. She glared at me. "It's not funny!" I nodded.
"Yes, actually it is," I said. She swore at me and I just rolled my eyes. She handed the box to Adrian.
"I'm going back to camp to change. Continue with the game, I don't really care," she said and stalked off. Both Shaw and I rolled our eyes.
