The next day then sun rose to a beautiful blue sky, decorated with just the right amount of clouds. The trees rhythmically danced to the light wind of the morning and the ripe flower petals of the cherry blossom trees swept the port town of Namimori. The gentle and sweet fragrance of the ocean lightly scented the air and the songs of the morning birds themed the atmosphere. People of all ages and gender were commuting to work and school.
"...but I don't need a home-tutor!" I complained to my mom for the hundredth time in two days.
"Have you ever had to face the horrors of looking at your sons report card?" my mother replied looking at me apathetically. With that look I knew I had lost this argument before it even began, so I tried a different approach.
"Okay, fine you win that one, but at least hire someone that is actually a tutor and not just some random hooky in a suit that slips sleeping pills into my medication then wakes me up at four o'clock in the morning with a bucket of water. To top it off his constant abuse to my backside has made me incapable of sitting down." Satisfied with my argument I slung my bag over my back, took potato chip and ate it.
"Its just his way of getting to know you better, like your strengths and weaknesses," I raised my eyebrow but she ignored this and continued, "besides your father approved of him and on top of that he pays us rent." Again I opened my mouth to argue her senseless point but then she used the finishing blow.
"And his tuition is free." Defeated, I took one last potato chip out of its bag and nibbled on it. I proceeded to take my lunch money off the counter.
"Okay, I'm off to school." I groaned, dragging myself out of the house. When I opened the front gate I felt a sharp pain in my backside, followed by my face embracing the sidewalk.
"Don't slump in public, your an embarrassment to your household." Reborn sounded from behind me. I was used to being bullied and beat up but this guy was taking it to an extreme, and he's supposed to be my tutor. I got up rubbed my behind. I felt another sharp pain in my gut and keeled over.
"We're still in public you clown, don't rub your bottom," Reborn had somehow appeared in front of me and was now standing on one leg, with hands in his pockets, while the other leg was stretched millimeters before me.
"And what you're doing counts as civilized?" I couldn't help but retort. He lowered his leg and gave me his signature smirk then started walking.
"Hurry up Halfwit-Tsuna, we have to go to school." Reborn beckoned.
"Who are you calling halfwit? And why are you going to school with me?" I jogged to keep up with Reborn who had long legs and walked at an extremely swift and dignified pace. He had a relaxed yet noble posture, he walked with his hands in his pockets, his chin up, hat tipped down and eyes which surveillanced his surroundings.
"You're my home tutor you don't come with me to school, that's the point of a "home tutor" he stays at home." I struggled to keep up with Reborn thanks to his earlier kicks to my gut and backside, we already were already quarter way to the school and his pace was only increasing.
"I'm not your average home tutor." he simply replied. I chose not to go further down this enquiry as it would be fruitless. We turned the corner on fifty nine Shinrai street (which had recently been sold), and a question I wanted to ask Reborn from yesterday popped up in my mind.
"So what happened to the girl?" I asked.
"What girl?" Reborn glanced over at me for the first time since we left.
"The one that nearly drowned with me yesterday."
"Oh, the one that you kissed under water." I felt my face flush and ears burn when he said it.
He saw that?!
"I-I-I d-didn't kiss her, I was t-trying to save her l-life," I stammered, but Reborn didn't bother taunting me further and just kept walking on.
"She's safe, but I recommend that you try not run into that girl again..." I looked up at his face which betrayed no emotion but there was something off about the way he said it, "..unless that is you wanted to be branded a pervert the rest of your life." he finished. Okay I might have imagined that. Out of fear of embarrassment I kept my mouth shut during the rest of the walk.
I stopped just short of the final corner which would lead directly to the main entrance and looked at my watch. We were a whole hour early, usually at this time I would be fast asleep but now I was standing a few meters away from the school with nothing to do. Reborn turned around.
"Tired already halfwit?" he jested.
"I'm... not a... halfwit.." I panted exhausted from keeping up with Reborn. A third of the way to the school Reborn had suddenly started jogging which was the equivalent of me at full sprint. Reborn leaned against the wall while I recovered my breath.
"Let's go," Reborn walked towards the front gate and I followed him. However as soon as we reached the front gate I had the sudden urge to run away, because of the person standing near the front gate. He was the most dangerous person in the school, and no it wasn't some dictator principle or tyrant teacher, it was the head of the disciplinary committee; Kyoya Hibari.
