Flashback
"No dad don't worry I'll drive to school as long as you take Danny and find out what everyone else is doing too,"
"Okay honey," he said and then appeared out of the kitchen to continue talking, "don't worry about Danny. Drive safe," he said as he hugged me, his morning coffee and newspaper in hand.
I smiled at the thought of my father after all we had been though a lot together and being a single parent with five boys and a girl is not easy.
As I made my way to school something seemed off, I could tell.
"Uh, you and your family with your spidey- senses." Alyssa said clearly jealous that we could tell when something wasn't right unlike her but I would never tell that to her.
"Can I continue with my story then?" I asked impatiently. I just wanted to get this over with, not to mention I was in pain from earlier today.
"Yes you lowlife peasant tell me a story," she said straightening up and crossing her legs adding a british accent as the cherry on top. I stared at her hoping that she would get the hint that it wasn't funny and that she interrupted the story she so desperately wanted me to tell her.
"Sorry continue," she said sheepishly.
"Thank you," was my only reply as I continued on with my story.
"Well like I was saying I knew there was something wrong and when I stopped at the stop sign I looked both ways and then began turning when I heard the faint sound of an engine. That's when it all began, I hadn't even finished the turn when a car came out of nowhere and smashed into mine. There was another car that flew by and I could tell that they were racing. The other car immediately turned around." I remembered the screeching sound of the car as it took the turn and shuddered. Alyssa seemed to notice this and realization flew across her face.
"This has nothing to do about the crash, it was your mother wasn't it? The crash reminded you of her death." To my dismay she was the most observant person ever.
"Just a little." It reminded me of how it felt the day she died in the crash. It reminded me of how it felt to be in the car with her and how she threw herself in front of me but died while saving my life. It was too late now. I was about to start crying unlike what had happened at the crash where I was just dizzy and angry.
"How about we just eat outside?" My bestfriend, oh how I am so glad you know me so well.
"Yeah that sounds fine I'm tired of everyone staring at me like I have two heads." We walked outside and sat against the brick wall in front of the school. There was several other people just walking around and there was a couple of people by the old fountain in front just sitting and enjoying their lunch.
"So you up to telling me the rest of the story?" Allie questioned hopeful that I would be willing to tell me the rest but not wanting to push me past my limit.
"I know you really want to know so I'll tell you and thank you for understanding."
"No problem, now tell me what exactly happened?" Nice to see she's still the same Allie as always. I never did understand how she could just let things roll of her shoulders like that. Nevertheless I started again with my story.
