Bellamy POV
It seemed like the bell would never ring. It seemed like I was going to be stuck listening to Kane talk forever. But I guess that's to be expected on the first day, but they give the same speech every year, so the only person in the room who hadn't heard it before is Murphy. I look over at the boy in question, and I see him looking back at me. He looks away quickly , and I feel a grin on my face, thinking about how obvious Murphy's crush is. I look down at my schedule again, wondering which of my friends I share classes with. I was already lucky enough to get homeroom with both Jasper, whom I've known forever, and Murphy, who I still barely know at all.

Pd. 6- Spanish III- Mr. Kane
Pd. 7- Lunch- Provided by Mrs. Green and the Cafeteria Staff
Pd. 8- Physical Education 10- Mr. Wick
Pd. 9- Projects Anonymous- Mr. Griffin
All in all, not a bad list, although I may end up regretting taking Chemistry II, considering I will be the youngest person in the entire class, also Emerson is kind of a douchebag. I don't even know why I chose Projects Anonymous, I think I just wanted a blow-off class for the year. I look over at Murphy again........ And he's still staring at me. I look away quickly and start to shake my head with laughter. I look up a second later, and the bell starts to ring. I stand up and wait by the door until Murphy is the next one to go through, then I quickly slip in behind him. He doesn't notice and continues to.move down the hallway, his schedule clutched in his hand. I glance over his shoulder and mentally compare it with mine. He must have felt my head there, so he whipped around quickly, his face two centimeters from mine, we both breathe there for a moment, until I pull away quickly, realizing how it must look. "Sorry dude, just wanted a peek at your schedule." He looked at me, his face still flushed, and nodded. The next thing I know he's racing off. I stand there gaping for a second, before remembering that I need to get to class. I start to walk towards my class, when someone grabs my shoulder. I jump, and look over to see Finn, smiling like always. "Hey, have you seen Murphy? I was looking for him." "Oh yea, he's in my homeroom. And I think he just headed towards the math wing." Finn nodded, and have a sigh of relief. 'He must have been worried about how his first day would go,' I thought to myself, 'Especially with the shirt he's wearing.' "So Finn, I never asked all summer, what happened to him?" Finn glances over at me, as if trying to decide if telling me was a good idea. "His dad died when he was 13, car crash..... And his mother died on his 15th birthday." That would explain why he looked so depressed on his birthday this year. "What happened to her?" Finn just shook his head. "Ok, so why didn't he go live with another family member?" "There were none, at least, none that the state department could find." I looked down at the floor again. I can't imagine having no one left. We already lost my father when he left us, if my mother was gone too..... " One question I do have, what's with his clothes?" Finn starts to chuckle, "He's a city kid, that's just how they dress I guess." We both look at each other, and start to laugh hysterically. "Mr. Collins, Mr. Blake, thank you for joining us, finally." We both stopped laughing instantly. Everyone knew not to mess with Ms. Indra. We slid into the room, noticing that everyone else was already there, leaving the two desks in the front row open to them. We both slid into the desks, faces flushed. "Well, now that we all have arrived," Ms. Indra gave us a glance, "We can begin. Now I'm just letting everyone know before we go any further, this year is going to be difficult. As sophomores I am expecting a greater sense of responsibility and preparedness. You will be assigned three research papers throughout the year, on subjects reflecting what we have covered by that point in time." She pauses for a second, and I glance over at Finn, who looks just as scared as I do. "Now, we will start our year with learning about the United States immediately after the Civil War....." She continued to drone on, and I started to tune her out. I lean back in my chair, and, for whatever reason, my mind drifts to Murphy. I wonder how he's doing. Oh well, I look around the room and see all of the random people sitting around. I see Lexa, not even bothering to take notes. That girl has gotten straight A's in her history classes since we were young. I look at Finn, who is looking intently at Ms. Indra, and taking notes like a good student, which I should also be doing. I reach into my bag, and pull out one of the several blank notebooks resting inside. I look up at the board, and sigh at the amount of notes already sitting up there.
*****2 periods later*****
I'm going to die. Historians are going to find my bones sitting in the middle of this hallway. All of I've only been to three classes today, and I can already feel the stress ulcers forming from the workload. I have to read three chapters and take notes for history, I have to finish 60 problems for Algebra, and I have to do rough sketches for three household appliances for Art. I can't believe that Clarke talked me into taking it. Again. I aced it last year, but after I was in a car accident last year, it was hard for me to pick it up again, but I'm stuck with it now. Not to mention I'm dreading my next class more than any other on my schedule. Honors English 10 with Ms. Sydney, or Slutney as her students refer to her. She is still a Ms. because she is constantly cheating on her boyfriends. She goes through at least three every month. She is said to be one of the hardest teachers in the school. As I walk down the hall, my sketchbook still in my hands from my last class, I get shoved and sent flying. I crash into Monty, and we both hit the lockers. "Fag" all I hear is the shout, but I cant tell who pushed me, or who shouted it, because there are too many people crowding the hallway. Most people don't bother me, because even though I don't play on a team for the school, I'm still pretty muscular, just not as muscular as most of the football team, otherwise known as the only group that isn't afraid to mess with me. Our school isn't that bad when it comes to bullying, but it still happens, especially with kids that are different, or who have had other issues. I pick myself off the ground, red in the face with embarrassment. None of this used to happen before the incident. I walk over to Monty and make sure that he's ok, before I turn around and continue to walk in the direction of the English department. We reach the door just in time to see Miller giving Bryan a light kiss, before they heard a sharp voice call, "You two, knock it off or I'll give you both a suspension." Bryan and Miller separate quickly and they part ways, Miller into the room, and Bryan down the hall towards the science wing. Monty and I stop and stare at her for a minute, before she turns to us and gives us a glare. We speed-walk into the room, and determinedly grab the two seats farthest from her desk. Weirdly enough, instead of desks in the room, we have what looks like tables from a science lab. We join Miller in the back corner and wait for the bell to ring. "Bellamy!" I look up when I hear someone call my name, and I grin when I see it's Murphy. He's walking with Lexa, but she breaks off and joins our friend Harper at another table. He grabs the seat next to mine, and pulls out a black notebook with HONORS ENGLISH 10 written on it with bright purple letters. "How's your first day going?" Miller asks, still hanging his head because of his scolding earlier. "Fine, I met this kid named... John.... Um..... Mbege! That's it" My head snapped up instantly. "Murphy, you need to be careful around him. Some of the things I've heard...." "Listen, it's fine. I can take care of myself." I give him a sideways glance, but turn towards the front of the room when the bell rings, and Ms. Sydney slams the door shut, and locks it. "You all will pay attention to the three rules I have for class behavior. One: No talking out, Two: If you arrive late, you better have a slip or you get sent to the office; and Three: I do not take kindly to disrespect of any kind," She throws a glare towards our table at the back of the room, "Now, your first assignment in this class, is to write a detailed paragraph talking about your past, and a detailed paragraph about what you did last summer. We will start reading our paragraphs towards the end of class," There are a multitude of groans, myself included, " Also, I give homework that is due two days after I assign it. For Wednesday I expect Vocabulary exercises 1-5 done, as well as a few paragraphs containing all of the words. Typed. You may begin working now." I groan, and reach into my bag for another blank black notebook.
