They didn't stop running until they were sure no one was following behind them. They were no longer near the village, and Casimir wasn't sure how much further he could go. His legs were tired from running so far, and his shoulder was killing him. It was getting harder to ignore the wound, but the prince wasn't worried. He looked at his shoulder, his shirt torn and bloody from where he was cut. The cut was deeper than he expected, but it hardly fazed him. He would heal.
The prince turned his attention to Logain, who was also exhausted from running. With his magic, Logain was never forced to run like this. He was able to complete any physical task with the flick of his wrist, so this was quite the workout for him. But with his hands still shackled, it wasn't like he could use his magic. The bandits still had the key. It wasn't like they could go back to get it off of them. After escaping, returning now would be a death sentence.
Casimir held a hand out to Logain. He gestured to the shackles and said, "Let me see."
The warlock didn't know what Casimir thought he could do. Without the key, there was no way the prince would be able to get them off. However, when Logain held his hands out to the prince, Casimir shocked him once again. The prince reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a bobby pin. It didn't take long for Casimir to get the shackles off. Once they fell to the ground, Logain could feel his magic flow back into him. His magic might have went haywire at times, but without it, he felt useless. He was glad to feel his magic again.
Shyly, Logain looked at the ground. "T-thank you. For rescuing me."
"Of course. While we're traveling together, we should look out for each other. Besides, you can pay me back one day" Casimir said with a smile.
Logain nodded, looking up at the prince once more. His eyes landed on Casimir's bloody shoulder. Panic began to set in. This happened because of him. If Casimir never would have had to save him, then he never would have been wounded.
"You're hurt. I-I can heal you." Logain knew a few minor healing spells that should have been enough. A simple spell could close the wound and stop the bleeding.
Casimir shot him a smirk. "If you want to heal me, then a kiss will suffice. That'll be enough to heal my wound."
"R-really?" Logain blushed. He knew what Casimir was playing at. A kiss wouldn't heal a cut this deep, and Logain didn't even know why he was considering it. Asking for a kiss was ridiculous, so why was Logain thinking about doing it?
"Yes. That's all you need to do." Casimir leaned close to Logain, his face only inches apart. It would have been easy to plant a soft kiss on the warlock's lips right now.
Logain's heart was racing, but he nodded. If this was what the prince wanted, then Logain would do it. He owed the prince for saving him, after all. A kiss was simple enough payment.
However, when he tried to lean in closer, Casimir was the one who backed away. It left Logain confused. If Casimir wanted a kiss so badly, then why was he retreating now? He joked about kissing on multiple occasions before.
"Why are you rejecting the kiss? I thought this was what you wanted," Logain said, knowing that the prince could have been jesting this whole time.
Casimir could have mentioned the kiss because he wanted to tease Logain and that was all. The prince knew that Logain had no romantic experience before. It wasn't right for Casimir to play this trick on him. It was embarrassing enough without making a fool out of himself. Logain's face felt like it was on fire. He should have known Casimir was only messing with him this entire time.
The prince responded, "Don't get me wrong. I would love to kiss you, but I wouldn't take advantage of you like that. I only kiss men who actually want to kiss me back. You shouldn't feel obligated to give me something because I helped you and besides, you don't owe me anything when I'm healed already."
Logain was confused by the prince's words until Casimir pulled away the sleeve of his shirt to reveal the wound. The cut was still there, but barely. During the time that they were talking, Casimir's wound began to heal on its own.
"Your magic . . ." It clicked with Logain how this was possible. He had forgotten about Casimir's divine powers for a moment.
"My divinity makes me self-heal. I've never had a cut or a bruise on my body that lasted for more than a few minutes, no matter how deep the wound was. I cannot be affected by magical ailments either. It is one of the perks of being a divine child, so there is no reason for you to worry about me. No matter what happens, I will heal. The only time I won't heal is if the wound is fatal," he explained to ease Logain's worries.
The warlock should have known Casimir would be okay, but he still felt bad. It was his fault Casimir was hurt in the first place. He glanced down at the ground and said, "Still . . . I'm sorry you were hurt because of me. This might not be the only time this happens while traveling with me. A lot of people hate me for being a warlock, and there are also plenty of people who want me for my powers. I might get captured again . . ."
"Then that's an obstacle that we will face together. No matter how many times you are kidnapped, I will rescue you." Casimir smiled.
His words made Logain blush once more. Why did this prince have to say such things? It made his heart race unlike ever before. He quickly said to change the subject, "A-anyway . . . we should get going. It should take us much longer to reach the port city."
Casimir found Logain's bashfulness adorable, but he chose not to comment on it. He would save the teasing for later. They might have run away from the village and the bandits, but that didn't mean that they weren't being followed. There was always the possibility that the bandits would want revenge.
The prince stepped aside and gestured to the road in front of them. "Lead the way, sweetheart."
Logain's face heated up once more at the name of endearment, but he chose not to comment on it. He would let it go for now. Logain took the lead and followed the path to Cordea once more.
