Logain was frustrated as they hid behind one of the buildings and watched the bandits. At least the prince wasn't dumb enough to charge into the village with no plan in mind. After all, that was how they met. Casimir charged in to help him, but the prince didn't know what he planned on doing to save him. If it weren't for his distraction, Logain couldn't have handled that situation as easily. He would have figured it out, but Casimir did help him.

But maybe it would have been better if he didn't. Logain wouldn't have to be stuck here.

He sighed. It was too late now. Whether he liked it or not, Logain and Casimir were here. They were stuck together until they reached their homeland. It was an adventure Logain never anticipated or wanted. There was no point wishing otherwise when this was his reality. Once he reached Ambria, they could go their separate ways and Logain could wash his hands of this situation.

"What should we do?" Casimir asked, bringing Logain out of his thoughts.

"Maybe you should have thought about that before charging into the village," Logain retorted. He rolled his eyes and added, "I can easily deal with this situation, but it's going to cost you. A lot. I don't work cheap."

"And I will pay you. No matter the cost I will compensate you for all your troubles. Plenty of gold and plenty of kisses will come your way if you help me here," he said.

"I'll just take the gold, thank you." Logain blushed. Why did the prince have to be such a flirt? This was serious and yet Casimir couldn't help but make a joke out of it. Logain could change his mind about helping, but the gold was tempting. He needed the money.

Logain pointed to one of the village homes, which was guarded by two bandits. "That is most likely where they're keeping everyone hostage. If I cause a scene, you can rescue the villagers. If I'm able to deal with a few of the bandits without much problem, then hopefully, the others will flee."

He looked for anything he could use as a distraction. Soon enough, Logain spotted a wooden cart full of hay. He had an idea, and he hoped his magic would work for him this time. He hoped he wouldn't lose control again.

"Stay here. Once I give the signal, the guards should leave and then you can rescue the villagers," Logain instructed.

"What's the signal?" Casimir asked

"You'll know it when you see it," was all Logain said before leaving the prince behind.

Whether Logain's magic worked properly or not, he should be able to get the bandit's attention. He didn't know how the people overseas reacted to magic. For as long as Logain has been alive, people feared magic users. They blamed warlocks and witches for the sickness that overtook the lands, but Logain knew that his kind wasn't the cause of it. It was just another thing for mortals to blame on his people. He wouldn't be surprised if the land overseas felt the same way about magic. This was his first time in this continent.

Logain found another building to hide behind, this one closer to the cart. There were a few bandits standing near it as well. They were speaking to each other, and Logain decided to listen for a moment. Maybe he could get some information out of them, like why they decided to attack this village in the first place. From what Logain could see, there didn't seem to be anything of value. It was just a normal, shabby village.

"This is stupid. She's not here, so why are we holding these people hostage? They already told us everything they know," one of the men said, annoyed.

His companion didn't seem too thrilled to be here either. He clicked his tongue and responded, "Bosses orders, so you know we have to follow them, even if we don't agree. She might not be here now, but this is the first place she would have run to. Boss will get to the bottom of it."
