04; a shocking question from a senpai

"We should prepare for the upcoming Inter-High," Coach Yamiji announced and as anticipated, Bokuto suddenly shouted, saying that they would win this event. But, of course, the cheerful ace had been countered by the beautiful setter.

"You need to beat the top three aces first, Bokuto-san."

"Of course, I'm going to beat them! How can we win if not?!" Bokuto roared back and you can't help but sweatdrop at him, considering that he's being loud as usual.

Everyone commenced their practice while you were sitting on a chair, trying to take data of every member since the two managers were nowhere to be seen. Yukie went to the locker room and Kaori was in the restroom. So you were the only manager inside the gym and the coach, and you do your job as the team's manager.

Now that they mentioned the next tournament, you realized that this will be the first time you will be in their official matches. By just visualising the arena where their match will be held sends a ripple of excitement down your body, considering that you're gonna witness the real potential of everyone.

As you were watching them play, you can't help but stare at Akaashi again due to how his presence in the court is conspicuous in your eyes and you don't know why. Although all of them are great players, especially Bokuto – yet your attention had been seized by the gorgeous setter. Your mind abruptly relived what happened last night; you were still embarrassed that he accompanied you to the station and you didn't even do anything to break the silent atmosphere.

You're such a coward, (Name)!

You want to make it up for him and say your gratitude toward the male, but you don't know how you will do that, knowing that you have dilemmas when approaching Akaashi. Heck, you couldn't even commence a small conversation with him!

SO HOW?!

"(Last name)-chaaaaan!" Bokuto suddenly called your name, snapping you with your frantic trance and whip your head to him.

"Bokuto-san?" you asked, bewildered.

"Akaashi is being mean to me! He's not tossing the ball to me!" He wept like a child as if his parents didn't buy him the toy that he wants. You only forced a smile at the childish captain.

"Did you do something foolish again, Bokuto-san?" Bokuto, who heard your statement, felt like he had been struck by lightning and thwarted his gaze away like a robot.

"Ehhh..." he drawled.

"Don't annoy her, Bokuto-san," Akaashi asserted and you looked at him with your lips parted.

"I'm not even annoying her, Akaashi!"

You let them do their blabbering and you just watched them with a simper on your face. Although you're still flustered to face Akaashi, you want to admit that he's a nifty and generous guy. You really want to get along with him but every time he's near, you couldn't help but feel disconcerted and be timid again. Apparently, your embarrassment is an outright barrier to your plan. You just want to be friends with him and can talk to him like a normal person does. However, your wish is not that easy, knowing your current state right now.

"(First name)-chan?" Yukie disrupted you from your thoughts, making you glance at her in a daze.

"You seem kinda spacing out a lot today. I was calling you seconds ago but it appears you did not."

You blinked at her, and then assimilated what she had told you. "I'm sorry, Yukie-san..."

The said girl only studied you with a concerned look as she placed her hands on her waist.

"Is there something bothering you, (Name)-chan? You can share it with me if you want to."

You really want to be friends with everyone and get chummy with all of them, not excluding a certain gorgeous setter. You don't want to be uncomfortable and embarrassed around Akaashi anymore. You need to forget what occurred between you and him previously and get over with it so you can be friends with him and can speak without freaking out like everybody else. You don't want to give Akaashi an impression that you dislike him because of your behavior towards him.

If he ever thinks that way, you're certainly screwed and you might hurt his feelings! This is absolutely awful!

Since you don't want it that way and Akaashi doesn't deserve that kind of treatment because he's really a pleasant guy and a gentleman. You are determined to get rid of these unpleasant emotions you possess and you earnestly want him to become your friend that you can goof around with.

That's why you chose to call Yukie's name.

"Yukie-san, can I talk to you for a second?" You said in a serious tone.

When Yukie gives you her full attention, you begin to tell her all your problems.

"So that is your problem?" She asked while her thumb was under her chin, trying to think of an answer to your dilemma that you are handling.

Currently, the two of you are outside the gym since you don't want anyone to hear your confession, specifically the person you were talking about right now. This is seriously confidential and you don't want to be exposed that early, now that you were just starting your debut as their manager.

"(First name)-chan, honestly, I have no clue why you're being embarrassed and uncomfortable with Akaashi despite he's a gentle and nice guy. The one you should be uncomfortable with is Bokuto and I won't be surprised if that is," she said, which you solely hung your head low because of shamefulness. You also didn't know why you're like that toward Akaashi. It's just every time you were near him you would eventually get embarrassed and feeling anxious.

"But there's only one thing that comes into my mind and I don't know if it's right. It's just my opinion, okay?" You only nodded your head and waited for her to finish her sentence.

Your heart is banging tremendously against your rib cage for some unknown reason. You suddenly feel nervous while staring at her who's also staring at you with so much enormity. Witnessing how serious she was, it seems like you don't know who this girl is in front of you at this moment.

Once she moves her lips, you feel like your whole world has stopped and your ears turned deaf when you heard her next inquiry.

"Do you perhaps... like Akaashi?"
