Rosy's eyes were wide with fear, her body still as stone. The alarm blared loudly and echoed in Rosy's head. Alex could tell Rosy was thinking about something but she didn't know what. Rosy's mind was empty but racing to try and do something. Nothing broke Rosy's focus.
About five minutes later, firemen were breaking down the concrete doors and getting everyone out safely. The fire hoses were rushing water on the school, extinguishing the fire that had started near Ms. Avery's, Mr. Wilden's, Ms. Johnson's, and Ms. Marvey's classrooms.
'It's starting.' Rosy thought to herself.
Rosy held herself responsible for what had happened, even though evidence showed she was nowhere near the fire area when it started. When officer Jones reached the school, Rosy was forced to identify the student caught on camera.
"That looks like Jessica. She's an eighth grader. I don't know what her homeroom teacher is though." Rosy said in shock as the smokey smell faded away.
As officer Jones dismissed the twins, Rosy looked back at the camera and gasped for a little amount of air. Alex looked back at Rosy and saw she was almost in shock. Rosy and Alex left quietly and instead of going to their mothers car, they went back to where the fire had started. As they moved through the remains of the hallway, they entered Ms. Avery's room and saw the horrific scene of chared desks and carpet. This room was always Rosy's safe place but it'd been taken away from her. When the girls heard footsteps behind them, they spun around, knowing who the intruder was, Jessica.
"What do you want with me Jess? What did I do to you that you had to burn down the one place I felt safe in this school? Answer me that." Rosy said with rage filling her voice.
Before she could give an answer, the three girls heard the sound of a gun cock back and getting ready to shoot.
"Put your hands over your head and no one gets hurt." Officer Jones said from behind Jessica.
Before anyone knew it, Jessica was in cuffs, a cop car, and on her way to a station. Officer Jones took a moment to make sure the girls were okay. When both girls were clarified as safe, officer Jones escorted them back to their car. Their mom started the car and both girls turned around to watch the fire trucks put out another fire in the building that was close to the first fire but not too close. Rosy and Alex exchanged looks as the school became out of sight.
The three girls went shopping for clothes, food, and more school supplies even though the end of the year was near. Students would be taking multiple tests for progress reports and many other tests. Teachers were in meetings all the time and the effort put into ending the year was inexpressible.
After shopping was done, the twins and their mom went home and ate dinner quickly before the girls had to do homework. Alex could tell that Rosy's mind was on more than her homework.
"Okay, spill." Alex said as the anticipation got the better of her.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Rosy said as she started to think about her homework.
"Come on. Something is OBVIOUSLY bugging you. What is it?" Alex replied anxiously.
Rosy gave no response and Alex let it go. The girls quickly finished their homework and started getting ready to sleep away that days worries.
Rosy had mixed dreams that made her feel sick. Alex slept a peaceful and quiet slumber.
The girls woke up an hour before their alarm and they decided to use this extra time to go for a calming run. Rosy was always one with nature and she couldn't stand for being away from it for long periods of time. The girls changed quickly and went out for their run. Rosy had felt at peace with herself and others but on their way back, nature couldn't calm what had made the front page of the newspaper.
