Steven Universe: Pink Diamond Survived

I Must Understand

After reading the note, Steven decided to take a walk down the boardwalk to think about what he was just told. He took that hour to consider what Pink Diamond said and whether or not he should go meet her or tell someone about her. As he was walking down the boardwalk he decided to go sit on the beach in front of his house to relax as he listened to the waves lightly crashing. He sat there for nearly an hour trying to decide what to do.

Eventually, he decided to get up and do as Pink Diamond instructed. He went to his house, stood on the warp pad, activated it, and arrived at the barn a few minutes after the hour was up. He looked around outside the barn looking for Pink Diamond, but she was no where in sight. When he went to check the inside he found her looking through the old plane parts and junk stored in there.

Pink Diamond looking away from Steven said, "I'm glad you came. I was beginning to think you decided not to come".

"I wasn't sure if I was coming. I took the hour to determine what I should do. Telling the gems seemed like the safe move, but I know if I had told them they would have just assumed the worse and tried to force their opinions on me. Sometimes I think they still see me as a child, as someone too young to make his own decisions and his own opinions".

"Do you want me to continue telling you about how I became a Crystal Gem or do you want to talk about something else?" Pink Diamond asked.

"Why don't we finish the story and then we can talk afterwards," Steven said.

"Once the meeting between the diamonds was over I started making plans to contact Rose, to try to convince her to stop this and to determine why she was doing this. I made numerous attempts, from wailing stones to having my gems deliver hand written notes, but she never responded. At first I thought maybe she just wasn't getting them, but after enough attempts I realized she was getting them and just wasn't responding".

"I assumed she didn't want the other gems seeing her in contact with me, so I chose to make plans to personally go to Earth. However, I had to be sneaky. I wanted to meet with Rose alone so I decided to come here with no guards and no luxury. It had to seem like I was any other gem. I went there and changed my form so no one would recognize me, and I was able to sneak into their base and get Rose alone".

Pink Diamond continued after a short pause, "When we were alone I revealed myself to her and assured her I wasn't there to hurt them. I just wanted to talk. Your mother told me how she and the other gems were unhappy how Homeworld was treating other worlds and species and they wanted it to stop. I still couldn't understand why or how someone could think that way. After returning to Homeworld I spent many years fighting her, I believed I was doing the right thing. As the rebellion raged on I began to see what she meant when I saw countless gems and countless humans being hurt, poofed, and shattered. I came to the conclusion that I couldn't continue fighting her and that I needed to help her.
