Alice's POV
Dad and Laura returned back safely. They had managed to gather a few supplies including food, water, medicine, toiletries, books and other entertainment forms, more blankets to keep us warm and such. They came out with many bags off stuff in hand looking like they had just been on a shopping spree
"I've got is the good stuff" dad said proudly
"Wow you guys this is amazing" mum smiled as she went though the balls. I looked though the books to see if there was anything to read to pass the long hours.
Being trapped inside a small space like this for a while can drive a person crazy as I'd imagine but knowing what was outside, it brought comfort. A book would be a great way to escape this world while being entertained for hours on end.
And looked around and ended up pulling out the book wicked. The musical was amazing so I guess I'd read the book, even though I know its entirely different from the musical but what ever. I went back up to my bed and began to read away.
A few minutes passed and mum handed like a small serving of baked beans.
"Breakfast is served" mum said in a French voice
"Nothing much I know but by looking it we should be having an alright dinner" she laughed.
I went back to reading my book. I couldn't concentrate fully as my mind was thinking about what was the point of surviving. We weren't really living, this is no better than being dead, infact it's worse.
"Hey what's this" Laura asked as she pulled a shoe box out from under the bed
"I don't know I've never seen that" mum said as she cams over. This peaked my interest so I looked too.
She began to lift the lid and inside was a bunch of papers. Laura took them out and began to read
"It looks like the people before you had plans to drive to Edinburgh. Apparently the army has a base over there, a gated community type thing" she said reading though
"Wait, a safe place?" Mum said and she took the papers and read them herself
"Yeah, all the way up in Scotland, I say we go, a 8 hour drive is all it is, then we will be safe and around Others who we can trust" Laura said "it's only 8 hours, and if we go country roots we should stay away from hordes"
Mum and dad made a "hmmm" noise. Mum was the first to speak with
"But what if it's not safe, what if there is not a safe place, what if it became corrupted"
"But what if it is safe, we are early Into the apocalypse still, I'm sure it won't be corrupted just yet" my father said "it is worth a try, and Laura is right if we go on open country fields it's less likely we will come across One of those things, they are all in areas of noise and the country is quite"
"Plus we will be there by tonight, it's honestly worth a shot" Laura added. My mother stopped to think before nodding
"You are right, yeah let's go" she then began to gather up some stuff.
Yeah it seemed like a good idea, but something about it felt off.
"We know where this place is if we need to return, we have supplies, a large car from that house, it's safe" Laura reassured my mum.
"I'll go in and hunt for the keys, I'll also shed the shed for fuel" my father said as he began to walk out of the shelter.
I got up and began helping mum and Laura back up supplies into the bags.
