Alice's POV

A few moments later, when we had everything packed up, we heard a car outside drive up. Mum opened the door and saw dad who was in the car. He winded down the window

"We have more the enough fuel in the back, and I also gathered us a few extra weapons, now get in" he said as we all walked out with bags in hand to the car. It felt weird passing the pile of dirt which held George under.

I climbed in the back with mum while Laura got in the front with dad.

I pulled out my book to entertain me while dad set off driving.

I kept my head down in the book, trying to avoid looking out the window. I didn't want to see death or blanks or entrails. I didn't want to be reminded at what this world had become. Now when I was moving though it at least.

"I remember when the worlds end threat happened when we were kids" mum started "they told us the world was going to end, a meteor would hit, and we were scared shitless, so scared your father confused this love for me when he found out, we all believed it" she signed "and it turned out to be fake, the only good thing I got from that was your father" she laughed slightly "but now it's not fake, funny"

We drove abit more in silence. I just kept my head in my book even though my mind kept wandering off. Just thinking.

After a while mum reached behind her j to a bag and pulled out a packet of bisects

"They go off never month so how about we eat them" she said and she began to open the packet.

She handed me 2 then passed the packet back around. To be honest with you I didn't feel like eating much but they did smell good.

I placed my book onto the seat next to me and took a bite.

It tasted so good, considering my diet for the past months had been from tins.

I glanced out the window and saw we were in a field. Some blood layed on the floor and I saw one body but that was it. I shuddered and turned back to face the inside of the car.

I finished my second one and mum handed me the packet again

"Do you want another" she asked. I felt a little sick so I declined.

I lifted my book back up, I didn't feel like reading but it was a distraction.

"Can I have some water?" I asked as I realised how dry my mouth was

"Yes, sure, here" she said as she handed me a bottle. I began to take a few sips. I rested my head against the glass and closed my eyes and I fashioned the lid and slid it to the side compartment.

I allowed the cars movements to shake my body around as I tried to visualise a better world, plus I was starting to feel tired, I mean I had hardly any sleep form the nights events.

I felt something warm go over me and I opened one eye to see mum wrap a blanket around me. I sent closed my eyes and escaped into a dream world.

~~

I was awoken by a suddenly swerving motions, and in what seemed like slow motion the car seemed to begin to trip over and roll down a ditch.

I heard screaming and in my dazed phase I was too confused to scream until we hit the ground below and everything seemed to go black.
