Before school is always the best time. You can just sit and do nothing besides your locker. The girls and guys are all surrounding each other. Jynx and I both lean against the locker. My arm over her shoulder. Bryn is talking everyone's ears off. I can't seem to tell what Hadley is doing on her phone. Kinsley stands- admiring her matte black (claw like) fake nails.

"I want to dye my hair." Jynx says out of no where.

"Why?" Kinsley asks.

"I don't know I just feel like it." She responds shrugging her shoulders.

"Fair enough." Kinsley gives up and lets her win.

"Lets go then." Bryn speaks up over the one time silence.

"I'm down." Hadley says. The first word she's spoken.

All of us voice our agreements and start walking down the hall.

Getting close to Lacie we hear her shout. "Would you look at that the girls who's mom died of overdose and dad who killed himself after abusing her for years has friends."

Looking at the group everyone is looking at each other until we all look at a furious Jynx.

"Or how about the fact that the first person to love her was her older brother that her gang killed." Lacie yells out.

Looking at Jynx -I don't know what I expect to happen. "Lacie stop making my life seem pitiful. Remember your mom that was a prostitute after your dad died of assassination. Remember the promise that you made to PJ that you would never be like her. How are you in here again. No not a fight. You were walking in your mothers shoes." Jynx spits out. Lacie looks like she wants to cry.

"At least I can protect my brother. You can't. Why? Because you killed him. It was your gang that slaughtered him. Why? Because he was gay. Openly gay. And you talked about how much you loved him and who he was. Guess what? You can't love him anymore because you're a monster that killed your own brother." Lacie screams.

I watch Jynx slowly advance towards Lacie. Standing face to face Jynx leans in and whispers something in Lacie's ear. That obviously triggered something within Lacie as she attacks Jynx out of nowhere. The guys pull Lacie off of Jynx as I hold Jynx to my chest.

I feel her ragged heart against me as she takes uneven breaths. Her shaky hands cradle in between us. Picking her up bridle style I walk her out to the front of the school.

Sitting her down on my lap, I sit on the top step.

"Jynx?"

"Yeah."

"Are you okay."

"No."
