my brothers eyes scared me to much that tears rolled down my cheeks. And I don't cry. Not often, at least.
My brother and mom is torn away from and I'm left here alone.
I think about sobbing, but l am not weak. my best friend Gabby comes running into the room, sobbing herself. "Don't die. don't die. don't die."
She kept saying. it was like she was chanting it.
"Hey. Shut up. okay?" she looked at me and showed a smile while I'll said
"I won't. I promise. I won't die on my life."
"Wow,that's quite the promise." she said smearing tears away from her cheek. She started to sound like her old self.
"If you come back, I won't be at the train station. Look for me at circle back lake. Okay?"
"Okay." I force smile. circle back lake is pretty much a lake at the end of the district's boundaries.we call it that because you have to circle back to;or turn around, to get to the square.
"three minutes are up." said the harried Peacekeeper. he took her away from me and I yelled,
"I promise, I'll be there at circle back lake Gabby! I promise I'll be there!" then, she was gone.
"There's no one else.come on." a peacekeeper said. I followed him to where Hugo and Tandoori were waiting at a car.
"There you are!I thought we lost you!"she chuckled and got in the car.
"Yeah, like that would happen."
I mumbled. Hugo gave me a small laugh.I didn't expect it.I got in the car then Hugo after me.Tandoori went on and on about how great the capitol is.We practically dosed off.
"Here we are!"
Tandoori said.We arrived at the train station.
"Climb in climb in!"I climbed the stairs and bumped her wig.
"Sorry." I mumbled.
"Manners!" she almost yelled.
When I got to the 3rd car in, I smelled food.
"Oh my gosh, is this real?" I asked desperately.
"Well, it IS the capital, the food is real, honey." I turned around to see the mentor, Dayton. I've seen him around the district.
"Congratulations, you have an advantage. you're district 4." he said, sitting down.
"Well we know were from district 4." I said, grabbing bread. I held it up,
"can I have this?" I asked.
"Why, yes just, um, slow your...pace." Tandoori said uneasy. I ate it and went to my room. I slept till we got to the capital. We walked through many crowds,I was feeling hands on my arms all the time we were there.
"Here we are, the training center remember manners!" Tandoori said. We all followed her to where an elevator waited.
"Just press 4 since your district 4.Today is all strategy with Dayton here,"she gestured to him."then tribute parade and so forth!" she said cheery.
"Okay, what can you guys do?" he asked.
"When my mother leaves the house,I put up a target in my room and throw knives. I'm alright." I've been doing that for years. My mother sometimes works at the docks, so I have all the time in the world. she never knew.
"Weapons," she would say."Much, MUCH too violent for a little girl."
"Well let's see it then." Dayton got up and gathered knives.
"Here hit things I tell you to in the room, okay?"
he asked looking for a place for me to hit.
"Okay."
I grabbed the knives and placed my self perfectly square.
" I'm ready." I said uneasy.
"Okay, break the vase over there." he pointed to my left and the second the words left his mouth, the vase was into a million pieces.
"Better then I thought, okay those pillows."
He nodded his head toward the couch, where three pillows lay there. I throw the knives and in my head I think, bye pillows! they both stare daggers at me. Until I threw an actual dagger by the side of Dayton and Hugo's head. They jump and I leave the room with a smile.
