Chromekit hustled past the crowded group of cats. Most of them were picking things from the fresh-kill pile. She frowned. The fresh-kill pile was getting dangerously small, and with so many mouths to feed, it was hectic. Many cats were arguing over prey.

Chromekit then stepped under the large bush that was the nursery roof. The ground had been dug out, so it wasn't so crowded, but when is a nursery not crowded? Chromekit was nearly 8 moons old. She was currently 7, and was small for her age. She stepped past the little 3-moon-olds and into her family's nest. Her mother, Wisebird, was gone for the moment. Nevertheless, she lay down on the soft nest. Her fur sparkled oddly in the sunshine that filtered through the leaves.

Just before she began to doze off, a tiny paw prodded her side.

"Chromekit! Come play with me!" A tiny voice squeaked in her ear. "Okay, Berrykit." Chromekit sat up and walked outside with the little red kit. Her brother and sister, Rabbitkit and Flowerkit, were already out. "OK, so I'm Berrystar! Chromekit is my deputy!" Berrykit said excitedly.

"I'm Rabbitstar, leader of rabbitclan!" Rabbitkit said.

"I will be Flowerstar, leader of flowerclan." Their sister finally said. Chromekit hissed playfully. "Rabbitstar! Flowerstar! You trespass on berryclan soil, prepare to be vanquished!" She said. Rabbitkit batted at her, claws sheathed. "You do not scare me, Chrome...uh ...Chromepelt!" Flowerkit intercepted him. "Warriors need not kill to win, Rabbitstar." Chromekit bit back a laugh. She had heard that from Wildstorm, an elder. Soon, the other kits joined in, each in one of the three play-clans. They played until moon-up, when they were ushered inside by Wisebird.

Later that night, Chromekit had a dream. She stood in a breath taking forest, and it was warm and cozy. Suddenly, a cat with stars strewn apon her pelt, walked forward to Chromekit. "Hello, little one." She said. Her voice was soothing. "I have a message for you." Chromekit's ears perked.

"Blood shall stain the ground forever,

The hero in the land called 'never',

Her people cry with pain and sorrow,

        Knowing life shall end tomorrow,

        Sun and snow will reunite,

To seek a way to the brightest light,

Faith will stand its powerful ground,

Her power sure to greatly astound,

The hottest sun, the blackest snow, and strongest faith and hope."

Chromekit tilted her head. This was far beyond confusing. Although, before she got to ask, the she-cat faded and she woke in her nest.
