"Hurry up Steven I'm not gonna hold this all day!" Amethyst yelled from the front door.

"One second!" Steven was attempting to find his coat. "It's going to be chilly at night!"

"Well if you don't get out here quick, I'm leaving ya!" Amethyst lifted up the speaker she had found in her room. It was so tall it didn't quite fit in the temple. Where she had got it from, she probably didn't even know. It did, however, work seeing as Amethyst tested it and nearly shattered every glass object in the room.

"Found it!" Steven yelled. "I'll be right there!"

"Ugh," Amethyst groaned. "I'll just meet you down there." She walked outside and began in the direction of the neon lights lighting up the sand in the distance.

Steven watched her walk out, threw on his jacket, and went over to the couch where Pearl was reading a book.

"We were gonna go down to the rave. Did you want to come with?"

"Oh, thank you Steven but I'd rather finish reading this book." Pearl motioned to the cover: Of Mice and Men. "It's odd though...there doesn't seem to be any mice in this story."

"Oh, that must be Connie's. I think she left it here last time she came over."

Pearl wasn't sure who Connie was but she was pretty sure she wouldn't mind her borrowing the book for the time being.

"Well if that's the case, I guess I'll see you later!" Steven waved to the gem who waved back. He ran outside where Amethyst was debating on if she should just throw the speaker in the direction of the party instead of actually carrying it there the rest of the way.

"I like new Pearl," Amethyst said offhandedly. "She lets you stay up past your bedtime."

"As I've established before, I do not have a bedtime but a healthy sleeping schedule which helps me feel well and rested."

"Uh huh." Amethyst rolled her eyes. "Just don't get too crazy. I'm not gonna carry you and this hunk of junk home."

Being able to hear the music from the beach, Pearl tried her best to block out the noise. It's not that the music was bad but the noise was giving her a headache. Not knowing how to get in her room, she figured she would simply have to endure it. Still, the sounds were familiar, like a song she had heard before. Had someone sang here before?

"What can I do for you?"

Pearl shot up from the couch. Those lyrics, they hadn't come from the music outside.

"What can I do that no one else can do?"

"There it was again," Pearl muttered. She tried to follow the tune the best she could but the song was only fading away. If she could just catch a few more words-

"Sapphire can we just talk about this together?!"

"I'm just upset Ruby!"

Pearl broke out of her thoughts as her attention was brought to the two gems walking out of the temple door. Where had they even come from? Did she know them?

"I just don't understand it," Sapphire shook her head. "Why are we always the ones who have to be strong?"

"Garnet, may I talk with you a second?" A soft voice asked from behind Pearl.

The latter turned around and found herself in what she could only guess to be another memory. She was standing near the entrance of a cave, just around the corner. There was a pink hue coming from the inside. It looked like the temple without the house. None of this mattered to Pearl however because her gaze was caught on something- no, someone, else entirely.
