Chapter 2: Day One at Burb High; Rose Lalonde

I walked into Burb High for the first time and was welcomed by a girl with short brown hair, bright green eyes, about my height, and fangs. Not quite literally, but her canines were definitely longer than average. 

"Welcome to Burb High!" She said, "I'm Kanaya Maryam, and I'll be your tour guide in a way. I'll show you to your classes, and help you make friends!" 

"Greetings. I am Rose Lalonde, I just moved here from Wichita, Kansas." I said. I'll admit I thought that she was a little bit cute, but I didn't know what love felt like at the time; I just thought that I was hungry. 

"Let's go to the gym, where every morning all the students sit on the bleachers and wait for the morning announcements; read by our one and only Principal Harley." Kanaya explained as we walked to the gym.  

"Meet some of my friends; this is John Egbert, with the glasses and the overbite; Sollux Captor, he has a lisp and his eyes are a little messed up. By that I mean he has one red eye and one blue eye. He also wears glasses that match up with each eye color.

"Over there is Eridan Ampora, he... ah... has a bit of an emotional problem. Feferi Peixes over there is super bubbly and loves anything fish related. There's Jade Harley, and loves her dog Becquerel. John and Jade are brother and sister, and live with their grandpa; our Principal Harley! Aradia Megido used to be happy all the time, but now, she doesn't really feel emotion. It's sad really, she was fun!" 

Miss Maryam pointed out everyone as she told me a little about them, and I felt like I would become good friends with all of them, in time.

"Miss Maryam-" I started

"Please, call me Kanaya!" She interrupted 

"Alright then, Kanaya- Who is he? The one with the sunglasses, surrounded by people. (Although I do not understand why he is wearing them inside.)"

"That is Dave Strider, who I think that everyone can say is the most popular person at Burb. With both males and females alike, mind you. Oop! Gotta run! Another new student; and a teacher apparently. I am sure that you can introduce yourself to everyone." 

Kanaya dashed out of the gym after she got a text-from Principal Harley I guessed- so I decided to introduce myself to Mr. Egbert first. 

"Good morning Mr. Egbert, my name is Rose Lalonde and I-" 

"Hi Rose!" Mr. Egbert jumped in- I noticed that he had a very large overbite,- "I'm John Egbert but you can call me John! So you're new here! Tell me about yourself! Do you like Nicolas Cage? Or the movie Con Air? I Certainly do! Hey, Rose-" 

"Excuse me Mr. Egbert-John- I moved here from Wichita, would you be willing to show me around today? My tour guide seems to have left me." I calmly said, interrupting John's voice. He talked like he ate an entire bowl of sugar for breakfast. I also don't think that he had hit puberty yet. Yeep.

"Oh, you mean Kanaya. Yeah, she meets all of the new students and shows them around on their first day. The only times she doesn't is if she has multiple newbies. Don't worry, I'll show you to your classes." 

I heard a voice come over the loudspeaker: "Good morning, Burbian citizens! Today we have two new students. Be sure to give them your warmest welcome!

"Today for lunch will be..." 

I drowned out the rest of the announcements, even though his English accent was a little hypnotic. I tried to focus on where my first class was, comparing my schedule to the map I was given yesterday. 

"C'mon Rose! What's your first class? How To Be A Boring Therapist? At least that's my name for it. I have that class too, but it's soooo boring. I, along with most of the class, use it as a naptime."

"What are you, a preschooler?" I sniped, "School is not for sleeping, it's for learning." 

"Okay, okay jeez, Rose. Anyways, we're here." John talked for less time than usual, since we had walked up to a door labeled Therapy for Dummies. 

"Oh yeah! Our last teacher quit because he was too mad that we fell asleep every day, so he quit. We're supposed to have a new teacher today." John added. 

"Well, I did hear Kanaya say when she dashed out of the gym that we had another new student and a new teacher." I added.

We walked into the classroom, and saw that our teacher was greeting students at the door. I noticed first thing that  his eyes were a little bit off-setting. They were so pale that his eyes looked white. Creepy! I thought when I saw those eyes.
