A screeching siren of a noise snapped Vincent awake, banging against his ears, sounding like wounded prey. Vince snarled, grew his claws and ripped at the clock. It became silent. Vincent crawled back under the blanket on the floor.
"Stupid Eve." He growled. How could she condemn him like this? A grocery store he could handle, he could even enter a shopping mall without completely panicking now, but sleeping in a hotel, when he was most vulnerable was crazy, dangerous, and stupid. He couldn't even sleep with his contact. What if a maid or someone entered? He felt cut off from the outside world. At the thought Vince dived into his tiny bad retrieved the little safety net, and put it in, feeling so much safer with just the domed plastic.
I miss the allies, he thought, a foolish, childish thought. Of course he didn't miss the dirt, trash and rats, but the ground, the way of hiding from the world he did. He couldn't even bear to sleep in a bed, and so moved his bed to the floor. It felt closer to the ground, thought the whole hotel was suspended in midair, held by giant metal beams and a metal skeleton. What advances the little monkeys have made to think this thing was simple and normal.
"Hello?" Eve called while entering the room, and wrinkled her nose in distaste. "You slept on the floor?"
Vincent rolled over to face her. "Yeah. The bed was-"
"More comfortable?"
Vincent's brows furrowed at the interruption. "No. Too different."
Eve sat on the couch. "You should take a shower."
"No. I like the dirt." It was Vince's only connection to his human form. He hadn't gotten the chance to change since he met Eve.
"You're impossible."
Vince shrugged.
"So guess what?"
"Yes?"
"Tonight's the full moon."
Vincent's eyes widened. "Tonight? Are you sure?"
Do you think I'd tell you if it were any different?"
Vincent put his head into his hand. "Maybe I should take a shower." He muttered, and went into the bathroom. He sat on the toilet, and turned the knob for the shower.
What am I going to do? Vince wondered. A fell moon was inbelieveably dangerous for both human and werewolf alike. Usually any werewolf could change any time he wished, day or night. But there was some strange fluke in a werewolf's genes. For some reason in the presence of the full moon's power a werewolf was forced to change, and lose his human mind for the night. Where will I go?" Vincent thought. I can't go into the forest and face Adair. But if I stay here I'll probably end up killing someone.
He put his hand under the water, splashed some water in his face and hair, and turned the knob off. Vincent wiped his face on a towel, leaving a dark mark behind, and stepped out of the bathroom. Eve was gone.
He looked around the room. On the table was a note:
Dog-
Don't let me see you with Eve again. You're not allowed in the forest.
-Adair
Then at the bottom a different writing:
Vince,
Stay in the eastern part of the forest for tonight. Adair won't bother you as long as you stay there. I'm sorry.
Vincent didn't need a signature to tell who wrote that part. He crumbled the paper and sent it flying across the room with a string of curses. He slammed his fist into the table, enjoying the fact that Adair would pay for it. Damn it, he thought crumbling. Eve was all I had. Eve was his connection to sanity, he knew all too well, and the gifts she had given him were invaluable. I wonder if she left on her own free will, or if Adair forced her. Vincent bared his teeth growling. He'd kill that bastard if he hurt her. Then he swept from the room, returned his key, and went back to his proper home. The allies.
