sorry this one is kinda boring. I was bored even copying it down but it'll pick up in a little bit
Chapter Ten
The Pure Form
Vincent's ears perked up as he read on the couch. There was a scuffling noise outside. Cops? He wondered. Were they spying on them? The footsteps were small and quick. A boy's feet, but too clumsy to be one of the werewolf children. There was a hesitant knock on the door.
Eve was watching tv, but quickly muted it and cocked her head. "It's that boy. What's he doing here?"
"I don't know. Visiting, I suppose."
"Visiting? But he knows what we are! Why in the world would he want to visit?"
"He isn't afraid of me." Vince stated. "He knows I won't hurt him."
"But humans never understand that."
"Relax; you're starting to sound like me. He's different than everyone else."
"But he could blow our cover. We're already in deep water already."
Vincent grabbed Eve's hands. "He's not a danger to us. I promise. And I like him."
Eve's bit her lip but didn't argue, so Vincent went past her to answer the door. Jake would chicken out and run if he didn't answer the door soon. Outside Jake was shuffling his feet nervously.
"Hey Jake." Vincent greeted casually.
Jake's face lit up in a smile. "Vince! Hi."
"The others didn't expect you to come back."
Jake fidgeted. "I miss you."
Vince sighed. "I know; I miss you too. But I'm happier here."
Jake nodded as if he understood exactly what he was talking about.
"Do you want to take a walk in the forest?"
Jake's eyes shifted from the deep lovely forest to the structure. How ironic that that the house, a human's home, was more a danger for him than the forest, normally the home of wild creatures.
"They aren't in there?"
"Only Faith, but she won't hurt you." I think. Faith lived by her own rules.
Jake smiled and clentched his hand. Together they strolled into forest. Jake seemed at ease. He truly was strong, especially for a human.
"How's school?" Vince asked.
Jake shrugged frowning. "Not bad." There was a pause. "Vince, are people really dying? Getting murdered, I mean."
Vincent sighed. Jake was much too insightful to lie to. "Yes. People are getting murdered."
"Do you have something to do with that?" Even a twelve-year-old could figure out that he had something to do with this mess.
"Kind of." He reluctantly replied. "It is a wolf that keeps killing, but it's no-one in my pack."
"Why are they killing?"
"I don't know. Just please stay out of the ally. Stay in at night." If Adair ever knew that Jake was dear to him...Vincent shuddered, and slumped against a tree. Jake stood watching him.
"I don't know what to do." He groaned. "I'm not sure there's a way out of this."
"What do you mean?"
I'm afraid you're right Vincent. A thought echoed, placed in his mind. Faith in her wolf form slunk from the bushes and cocked her head. Her tufted ears perked, her vivid red body twisting to face Vince and Jake. She looked more like a cat than a wolf. It somewhat suited her. She grinned as she plucked thoughts about her from his mind.
