Chapter Eleven. Have fun with it, we're more than 2/3ths through the story. I'm very eager to get this on computer and redo it! My computer's being weird so excuse any stupid structural problems.
Chapter Eleven
The Monster Inside
"Hon, do you still have your head buried in that book?" Lisa asked, peeped her head in his room.
"It's fascinating." Vincent replied without looking up.
"It's been days." Lisa chuckled.
"This book records our history like I've never imagined."
"How do you know it's true?" she asked smiling. "We are creatures of myth."
"I can only assume, but it makes sense."
"Devin found something you'll want to take a look at. He's downstairs in the living room."
Vincent stood and climbed down the stairs. "Devin, you have something about Adair's new form?"
"Well, I don't think it had anything to do with Adair's plan, but I think this is how he found the idea of how to transform into a moon wolf."
Vince grabbed the book and read. After a few moments, he put it down with a curious expression.
"Adair's insane." Vincent declared softly. "He has to be to...to" he drifted off.
"What does it say?" Lisa asked, eyes wide. A circle was forming around him.
Vincent handed her the book shaking his head, and explained to Lisa read with furrowed brows, "it basically says that we are creatures that are half-man,
half-wolf, split perfectly down the middle. About two days a month, we are pure. During the full moon we are purely wolf, during the new moon we only have
the shape of a human. But if a werewolf was to cast away one half, he could only have his pure form without the other to hinder it."
"So Adair's permanently in his wolf form?"
"No; even the most evil hearted can wear a mask. I think what it means is that you need to give up your human heart and innocence in order to gain power. In
essence, he gave up his human soul for that form."
"And he would do that? For what?"
"For his plan, whatever that is."
Vincent groaned. "I need to stop him. Now, before it gets worse." He walked to the door, intending to go to the allies. He'd shred that wolf.
"Wait a second." Lisa grabbed his hand.
"What? I need to go, no matter what the risk is. Besides, I've been training with Faith."
"No, it's not that. There's something you need to know."
The urgency in Lisa's voice made him stop. "what is it?" he heard himself say.
"It's Jarren. He told me to tell you that he's not coming back."
Her words struck Vincent like a blow. "What? Why?"
"He said that he thought it's too dangerous here. That he had to protect his daughter."
