I Want To Fly

"Daddy what is that thing?"

People saw the boy inquiring,

"A plane, cars that fly son",

Said the father to his son,

Cars that fly! Thought the boy,

I could fly! Mused the boy,

In his mind the boy saw,

Birds flying through the window,

To fly higher was his dream,

In soaring higher was he keen,

Everyday he went to the airport,

To watch planes depart from their port,

"What's your dream?" the teacher asked,

"I want to fly!" the class laughed,

"People like you don't fly!" said Lucy,

"You'll always be an idiot" barked Tracy,

The boy looked at them with an eye,

That would make even the rocks cry,

"Now don't be too harsh on him"

Said the teacher on a whim,

"It's good that u want to fly,

But people like u simply can't fly"

"Why?! Why can't I fly?"

Tears coming down his eye,

"You are a child special to almighty,

He didn't intend you to fly alrighty?",

"I still want to fly!" shrieked the boy,

"To see birds through their eyes!" wailed the boy,

"To fly above the world!" he went on,

"To scale the universe!" he was bent on,

"You have a disease for Christ's sake!

You have ADHD and Dyslexia if I might say!"

Tears formed in his eyes,

Class was silent for his respite,

He took his books, packed his bag,

Wiped his eyes with his shag,

As he walked without a destination,

He thought about his imaginations,

Birds flying beside him,

Waving people below him,

Flying cars! Thought the boy,

Stupid idea! Mused the boy.

Zoooooom! Came the noise,

A flying plane, saw the boy,

Fascinated for a second the boy forgot,

The dealings his day had brought,

Then hit the realization,

He was going to live only by imagination,

"What's the matter son?" asked the father,

Worried for his son, was the father,

The boy told him everything,

That kept on crying from within,

" I can't fly, I don't want to fly anymore,"

Said the boy who once fancied nothing more,

The father smiled an odd smile,

He gave the boy a big pile,

"That's all the rejection letter's I got for a job,

After I lost an arm in the war,

I lost your mother to the plague,

Did u see me lose my pace?"

"I have got a job for you,

Pack your bag and tie your shoes,

We are going on a vacation,

To bring back your imagination"

"Countdown begin, ignitions on"

A rocket turned his inspiration on,

Flying in the rocket was a monkey

"Are you going to be beaten by a monkey?"

"Daddy?" said the boy,

A new fire in his voice,

"I am gonna fly that thing one day!"

"And I will say, that's my boy!"

Fifteen years down the line,

A new crew formed a line,

A mission was scheduled that day,

A mission into space was going to begin that day,

A reporter asked the leader of the astronauts,

"What made you chose to become an astronaut?"

The answer he gave made his old teacher cry,

The answer he gave was "I want to fly".
