Chapter 3

The bell rang, indicating that it is time for recess.

I quickly packed my bag and grabbed my notes and pencil case.

In this school, if you want to eat on a decent table and chair, you have to be quick. This school has the most amount of students among the schools in my neighbourhood.

But that doesn't mean this school is bad. It just that, the tuition fee for this school is cheaper than others'. This school doesn't have locker at the back of every classes like other schools in South Korea does.

We have a room for all of the lockers at the end of each hallways on every floors.

I put my stuffs in the locker and rushed to the cafeteria. There was only ome chair left around the table full of girls.

I used to eat a few times with them so I thought it would be okay to eat with them this time.

I began to approach them and they greeted me with a smile plastered om their faces. "Minkyung-ah! Come sit here!" a girl named Kim Sejeong said while pulling out a chair.

I took a seat on the chair and placed my drinking bottle on the table.

"You're not eating anything?" asked Sejeong, full of concern.

"Nah, I'm fine. I've had enough breakfast this morning", I said with a shrug.

"So, where's the dude?" Somi asked out of the blue. "Who?" everyone asked as they were also confused.

"You know... Baejin" Somi answered with a cheeky grin. "Oh, him. How am I supposed to know?" I stated as I raised one of my eyebrows.

"But, you sit next to him in class!" Pinky butted in. "I mean, yeah, I do. But I barely know him" I said.

"What a shame. I thought that I could use you to get to know him!" Pinky added in while faking a pout. I laughed, "Pinky, please. I never knew you were interested in him." "Hell nah, I was kidding. Daniel is enough for me!" she said and giggled a little.

Ha, young love. They've been together since Grade 10 and still going strong.

"Well, the lunch time will be over in a few minutes. I'll head to the locker room first, bye guys!" I said while standing up. They all waved at me while saying goodbye.

I walked to my locker and to my surprise, my locker was not locked. I swear I have locked my locker before going to the cafeteria.

I opened the locker and found a big pale blue box inside it. I took out the box gently. It was quite light, for a big box like this one.

There was nothing outside of the box except for the ribbon. No cards, no writings, nothing.

I untied the ribbon, grabbed the top part of the box and opened it up slowly.

14 pieces of heart-shaped pancakes laid out carefully inside a big pale blue box.
